Kudos Adam for starting this facility.  The place and track you guys have built is amazing.  Congratulations!

I am new to the sport, would love to visit the track in grants pass. What tires would work there? I have a sc10. Thanks for any set up advise you may have.

i also run sc10 (lots of us do).  I ran city blocks, and tried tazers: both worked.  However,  other guys were running soft or super soft calibers, and they seemed better hooked up than I was.

Thanks to all who showed and raced!  For being an opener it was a huge success!  We will be racing again either this saturday or Sunday but I need your guys input on which day to do it.  I will be starting a poll to see what works best for everyone.

I like Sunday. It would be nicer to finish earlier though. Maybe start by 10:30-11. 2 heats and a main and we can be done a lot earlier. I have a cold but I was completely exhausted by the time mains rolled in.

The big races like OSS I can see spending that much time there but it would be nice to knock it down to a half day for these weekly races. It will also give the guys from out of town some time to get home.

As for the track, I like the surface.... There really isn't any rythem though. The whoops are frustrating to say the least. I feel like taking a cat to the triple. The features are all seem to be built for 1/8 scale but there were 90% 1/10 scale cars racing.

I'm down to come shovel and push a wheel barrel if needed to get some better rythem.

Hey Mr.Bret.  I wouldn't mind starting earlier if everyone chimes in on the pole, but you have to remember there has to be a one hour frame for practice at the least.  As for rhythm I would consign that the track was built for 1/10 4wd and 2wd mod, we actually tested the track with 1/10th rigs to make sure it was 1/10th friendly.  As for 1/8th it's extremely tight and demanding and really doesn't work as well as it should for them.  The rhythm section as people were calling it is NOT a rhythm section, it is a mogul section and done that way on purpose to slow everyone down with extreme prejudice, the backside triple is again NOT a triple but actually a bump and dump as it's called or "roller" as some refer it to.  It's made again to unsettle your car, not be able to clear completely even though it can be done.  The track was designed around 1/10th, but it is an off-road track.  In off-road MX style tracks nothing is smooth and perfect and this helps level the field a bit.  But I will say that a few parts will be and need to be changed as per your suggestion and others, but the general consensus was that it worked well for all scales.  Believe me guys I wish I had the capacity to make the track work perfect for just one vehicle type but that just doesn't work and becomes a very boring track for the majority to play on.

I wouldn't be opposed to gates opening at 8am, sign ups at 9, race start at 10. It was getting really hot in there and I have a feeling it's going to be unbearable after 2 in the summer time.

My issue with the triple is that the second and third bump are a bit too close. The top 3 in 2wd sc were crashing on it. I'm not bashing the design I really like the whole layout, it just needs a little reworking in my opinion. I did much better on it with 1/10 than 1/8. I was so frustrated with it in 1/8 ebuggy that I had gone to gassing it and clearing it, then slamming my buggy off the coping. Which really was unsafe for the corner marshal as he really was in danger during the main.

As for the whoop section, I still feel it is a bit ridiculous. Maybe a pair of doubles that could be triple singled? Maybe just knock the first one down a little or space them a little so there is room to double them. I like that they slow things down, but getting tossed when going through them slowly in a main is pretty frustrating. There is not much skill to them.

You know how I am though, always griping. Everything was pretty awesome yesterday considering how quickly the track was thrown together. Let my know when you guys need help working on things. I don't mind digging and moving dirt. ;)

You sir are not a griper!  I appreciate what you did and your opinion.  The track layout may change after the first OSS round when we see what 60+ cars seem to do to it.  For now it's just grooming, and possibly adding a triple section in back?  It is definatley a work in progress.  I agree on starting earlier since the weather will depict alot of what we do.  That was also the reasoning for late night weekday racing to shunt off some of the heat.

A triple in the back would be awesome! It does feel like something is missing back there.

I think on the double single "the notorious triple" if we were to push the double towards the back wall a few feet it would keep the 1/8 from clearing it and make it a fun instead of frustrating. I know it is easier said than done. Eric and I are more than willing to come out and do the labor some night soon if you want help with any of it.

I am assuming the loop for the timing just needs to be extended past the edge of the track a little as well?

I love where the jumps are. When hit right it's smooth as butter. And I was sliding at almost every turn. Got some good tires coming. Is the poll set up yet? I dont think mothers day would be a good day to have a race. Im not sleeping on the couch. Lol

I think the track came out pretty well overall!  I think finding the rite tire choice or some how adding traction to the surface (sugar maybe an option) would overall increase the race ability of the track. As far as jump, I thought they were all spaced correctly, only thing I mite change is a small roller near the center of the feature so 2wds could limp thru a lil easier and I would also change the No rhythm section to make it a lil more smooth. Just my two cents. Great turn out for your first race tho and I hope things stay goin good! Oh, mite wanna consider a rookie class as well, with a lot of new racers, its nice if they can race ppl at their own pace, instead of getting blown outta the water by the long time racers. Gotta keep there confidence high so they don't get to intemidated.... just a thought.

Tire choice is crucial and will be a trial-and-error thing for awhile. Sugar is a horrible idea. It will attract unwanted insects (like wasps). I remember one year at Southern Oregon Speedway they added some sort of sugary/syrupy stuff to the track surface (Coke syrup is what I heard) and the bees that year were absolutely unbearable.

Already in position sir. There will be a novice class as long as three are 3 or more sign ups. We also changed the entry fees around a bit to help out couples.

Agreed on both points Chris. There will be a center added to the double fairly soon as that seems to be a common thing to come up. Also NO sugaring of this track will happen!  It makes for more traction at the cost of bugs, bees, ruined bearings and a rig that is twice as hard to clean.

Well again the triple is not a triple. It is a roller. We may change it a bit so that you have to roll it and can't jump it to make it slower.

As per the "loop". We had no issues with it other than a few guys with wrongly placed transponders and people cutting the track.  Other than that it worked flawlessly. Out of all the races we only had a few miscounted that were easily adjusted for scoring.

Is there any other things that can be applied to the track to make it a lil less slick? I liked the double and roller before the straight away..... everyone was able to double it smoothly and if if were able to triple it smoothly, it was good for u, or u wreck and pay the price.... just how rc tracks are supposed to be in my opinion. The better drivers make the big moves and that's what makes them faster. But the non rhythm section... well that's just tuff. Haha. Glad to hear a novice class is in place, It helps keep the rookie drivers from getting discourged. Cant wait to come race again. Next time I will try to bring up more ppl for you. We have 7 ppl total, and everyone has between 2-7 different classes to race. :)

My personal opinion. ...... I would do $12, $8, $5....... As a person that runs multiple cars, and enjoy doin so, I would like to have a good deal, and also get more cars on the track. What's your thoughts? I know you have a good size over head, so I respect the money situation.  I think gettin more ppl thru the door and on the track would be the best bet. Side note.... anyway of you guys posting the results somewhere? Maybe on here or a facebook page?
