dude, you don't know me. I know of you. when i was working on their track, I was told (by rvrc) to call police if you (or a few others) came on property (which i wouldn't have cuz i thought it was BS). you never came to one of our races the last two years in person. How can you "not want to create waves" when you come at a topic like you did ? we're communicating about a track that we help (or in my case helped) with, and your telling us not to, and that my friend is where we have the problem. where are the un stragiht areas here ? and nobody's burnin anybody, you just poked some negativity in, and i took offense. I calls em as i eyeballs em, no reason not to oh and your little name drop. bartlejuice, GPRacer they would look at this and say "hey, what are those idiots arguing over/for?"
This is almost amusing, If you know of me then you would know that I was at a few of those races, no racing just watching., NEVER was it mentioned I was solely not allowed or laughably having someone call the police if I showed ;D I'm thinking you must have me confused with someone else and again would advise to get your info straight. I will say again that big words on a board mean nothing, I have spoken with a few of the guys here in person and they know and understand my views, actually I spoke with Adam last night about said events and he is on about the same page as I. Question do you enjoy making yourself look like an ass when you spout allegations or rumors about others that have no just hold? Figured I better edit this and say that honestly people I have read and read and it seems like the points are being sorely missed on a lot of things, I have never doubted anyone's ability to build a track only doubted that it will happen since it hasn't and until I am proved wrong this is were I stand on the issue. These are my rightful opinions, and I really wish they could be taken that way instead of starting an internet pissing match. I hope that most of you will read under my avatar and see what it says. These are opinions people and should be fought with criticism not allegations, rumors and a useless temper on a board.
well the thing that get me about this hole thing is the fact that everyone was asked to put in there in put on the track lay out and when ever someone would post some it would get shoot down. And if you want this dam track to be fun them maybe people should listen to others input and not shut ever one down when the were asked for there input by the person that started this thread. I really that you have it in your mind that this is what you want to build and the hell with what anyone one else has to say about it.
@ sincad, it is possible i have you confused with someone else. i should not have alleged anything as i don't know you. However, i did not fabricate a thing. The negative response is what rubbed me the wrong way. Your right, this is a useless pissing match. No, i did not read your avatar. If i had i would have realized, that it I had a problem. but moving forward I'm over it. I Aporogize @ casey35, as far as i know Nexus is just merley comminicating his ideas to the club, and is not building a track at all. I have nothing to do with the club and have nothing to do with the track (although i used to) "I really that you have it in your mind that this is what you want to build and the hell with what anyone one else has to say about it." that is the attidtude the club had for many years, i think they might be trying to change that, and i think thats the whole point of this track design topic. They already have a track, nobody really liked. so this new design is a step in the right direction (if they even build it).
Whoa. Just... whoa. I came back to this thread not 24 hours later to discover that it had blown up in an Internet Verbal Assault. I value everybody's opinion here, I truly do. Don't think I don't. Austin is right: I'm not building this track. I was just asked (by the club) to design one. This thread was to be nothing more than a thread for constructive criticism. I got a lot of feedback and it's all welcome. There really is nobody that is "correct" here, but what I'm striving for is middle ground between everybody's comments. Being that this club is a public facility the track needs to accomodate a wide range of racers and potential racers, so a lot of opinions need to be taken in mind. I'm sorry if anybody felt their ideas were shot down (Casey35) I'm only trying to show you the other side of the coin. I strive to be as unbiased as I can toward a lot of things, so if I come off as negative, it's likely only because I'm looking out for other people's interest too. And again, I intend to keep this thread on track (no pun intended) and want to remain civil here. If you feel this is a lost cause, go ahead and leave it alone. If you'd like to be helpful and improve things, please contribute. Just don't be a jackass. (That's a good life motto to live by, too.)
Then I suggest take head of all suggestions, when you say a large track and big air is intimidating, I ask how??? What you need to do IF your going to build anything is a dual purpose track. You can have large jumps and long straights, but what you need to do is build stepper jumps in between the larger jumps for the smaller rigs, it really is that dirt simple. I'm still not seeing were this is being misconstrued? Did I miss the boat when we used to race 1/8 nitro truggy and 1/10th 2wd SC together? Were we all a bunch of morons for using both rigs on the same track? This is the message I myself am trying to convey, build it dual purpose as has been stated numerous times, but I digress with the current club of four over there and the filth spilling out of there mouths as I'm now hearing, maybe it's high time I call it in on this endeavor. If I remember correctly there is only one year left on the current lease? This may be wrong since I do not have prudent information only word of mouth.
when you say a large track and big air is intimidating, I ask how?? Personally, I don't find it intimidating, but this is for a public facility that needs to be accessible by people of all ages and all skill levels. It makes sense (to me) that an easier, more forgiving track would allow for better entry to newcomers, which is what keeps the facility alive. What you need to do IF your going to build anything is a dual purpose track. This is a good idea. Bringing 1/8-scale cars to the track would increase foot traffic through and generate more revenue, but I'm not the guy in charge of that. I never was and likely never will be. Did I miss the boat when we used to race 1/8 nitro truggy and 1/10th 2wd SC together? No, you didn't miss that boat. Although I've never been part of the short course scene, I was racing the season(s) that the track was "dual purpose" and there were stadium trucks racing on the same exact track as truggies. It WAS fun, I readily admit that. I didn't like the way things were run then, but it was a fun raceday. maybe it's high time I call it in on this endeavor. Not to be rude (please don't think I am) but I agree. If you don't find this to be something you find interesting please don't follow it. It's really that easy. If I remember correctly there is only one year left on the current lease? I do believe you're correct. From the club's website: December 13, 2011. The contract with the County is signed and paid for another year! Lastly, please don't take your anger or frustrations out on me. I'm not affiliated with the club at all; I have absolutely no influence on the way things are going to be handled. I'm just a guy that wants to see things get better out there and sharing my thoughts. I can't expect everybody to see my point of view and although I understand everybody else's I can't always agree with them, either. There's no need for everybody to become inflamed. It's the last thing we need is segregation. I really, really hope everybody sees that.
Went to Rattlesnake Raceway last weekend. Wow was the new track awesome. Big jump and lots of technical areas. I've never seen Chads track but I'm sure its on par. Just want to say that anything less than a track of that status....well I would get board with this hobby pretty quick. So I say go big or go home! BTW 2wd short course guys had no problem running the new track.... Maybe the White City boys should just build a Circle Track for Off Road trucks... ;D Flame on...
ok here is my point. My son who is 9 year old races motocross and rides on the same tracks that pro race on and when the lil guys come out to race they race on the same track. and there are kids that have never been on a track. so what i am getting at here is the fact that just cuz some have less riding or driving skills thing stay the same. and i have taken my rc truck out on the tracks after races and i have had alot of fun on that big of a skill track. And i do believe that an off road track should have berm for the smiple fact that u can care you speed from a straight way in to a corner and the person going to the inside has to go slower which mean you could make a good clean pass and a tabletop is meant to be cleared and landing on the back side of the tabletop. And i didnot mean to start alot of s**t about this.
Fortunately Casey, the person that needed the input the most has received it. A big thank you to everyone who contributed POSITIVELY to this thread to give good feedback. By "positive" I am referrring to good constructive criticism. It is helpful and constructive to get both positive and negative feedback. Your opinions are valued and notes have been taken. greg p.s. I'd like to thank the trolls for an enjoyable read

To Casey, that is the COMPLETE to the T point I was and have been trying to convey and as of yet it seems to fall still a bit on deaf ears. Even though Chad and the boys had a "rough" time organizing things but at least everyone enjoyed the track. Maybe we should all go back to the days of old when we raced our hot hot JRX-ts around a 50X50 nearly flat track for 5 minutes?
That would be awesome!!! I have a couple gold pan RC10's I could dust off. If you stop and think about it for a minute, racing 20 years ago was a LOT more fun. (yes folks, I was racing 20 years ago) greg
The wc track as is is vintage enough for 20yo rc races,I think thats the problem. Everyone is ready for a much needed update, the kiddos these days are more advanced than a flat layout and prefer a challeng rather than a crutch of a layout Even when I was a neeb on a track 16+ years ago I got bored once I knew the layout and that was at socal rc raceway in HB.
So, a new question arises! Let's assume that a new design gets built on a larger scale, one that would be considered "dual purpose" and accommodate 1/8 scale trucks/buggies and 1/10 scale SC/ST. Would people with 1/8-scale actually come out to race? Let's assume we take the "go big or go home" approach, how many of you would come out there? Is there too much negativity surrounding things that you'd boycott it anyway?
Build it and they will come! If its worth the trip and the atmosphere is right then I dont have a problem with comin out. What you just stated suites all ages and skill level of rc offroad enthusiast meaning a much larger turnout.
Depends honestly who is pres/chairman of the club. If it was the same Nazi driven group that was there before then I would say no. If new blood comes in then yes, and also we used to have a group of 20+ guys that ran Nitro and at $25 min per head that was some good money and great racing.
The point of "bigger is better" makes more sense than I initially thought. As evidence, I submit the following photos from when RVRC had the "big" track. All are 1/10-scale stadium trucks with the photos taken wide-angle to show track size perspective. I raced that track, (my truck is in this set) and it was fun. Point taken. That last one (my truck personally) shows a good view of how a large track can still be fun for smaller-scaled vehicles. It makes sense, guys.
nice pics, yeah thats how many years ago ? lol. I raced a b4 on that layout, i was quite new to racing (baldish tires, 20.00 nimh batteries) but still had fun, someone stole all my rc cars that night. I was out of the hobby for a few years. but now i've been back into it for a few years, and i realize the importance of tires/race setup. I was merely crawling over the big jumps, because i didn't have the right tires or driver skill set. that track was pretty badass. hope it will be again. didn't really know what we had till it was gone.
