    Ouch.  :(
It probably happened so fast it didn't even hurt.

Must have been flying alone since it seems nobody reported the accident until some walkers found him dead.

    That was my guess.
Must have been a mechanical/electrical issue or a dumb thumbs moment that he couldn't get away from.

Yup, always, flying alone is NEVER a good thing ...
    ... Better I re-think flying my 450 inside
... ... especially when there is no one to remind me I'm being stupid!

Usually we're more afraid of hurting others when we fly these things so flying alone seems safer.

    Agreed.
    I usually fly alone.
My old heli flying area is going to be a subdivision soon, I'm going to have to look elsewhere. :(

Sorry to hear that Bill.  Any new prospects?

Am I naive in thinking that flying multirotor is safer than helicopter?  I know there are still blades spinning at high speed, and I've seen some guys get decent wounds from them, but I think I'd rather get hit by a multirotor than a 450 size helicopter much less something larger.

Not naive at all, at least in my opinion. I have no doubt that a multirotor would slice you up more than enough to require stitches but consider the mass of the heli blades. Enough to do some serious chopping until they broke apart or stripped the main gear. Gruesome to think about, any of it.

It's going to go quiet on this end for something a little over a week starting tomorrow. Going camping, fishing & flying. Flying with the little Fun Cub float plane that is.  :)

    Edit;
Oh, and no. I've not found a place to fly helis in town that I'm comfortable with yet except to hover in the back yard.

Sounds like you're going on vacation!  Have fun and take some photos/videos if you can.  Have a safe trip.

Ya know guys, as ya might remember due to an extremely personal indecent I ride around in my own version of a battery powered 4 wheel motor car. This in all honesty makes one VERY O·pin·ion·at·ed on this subject. Therefor as a topic of discussion I have refrained (for the most part) from commenting in this thread ...

If I did or had voiced what's on my mind I would literally BUM you ALL out and I wouldn't DO that to my friends, friends you've ALL become ...
... Best to keep it light & easy by NOT getting ALL "GONZO (WiKi) Serious"

I'm always amazed at bystander people unfamiliar with RC helicopters whenever I've flown.  Some people seem to have a instinctual desire to walk right up to it in a hover to get a better look.

Ya just know Yoda I agree and have also experienced 'spectator' curiosity of which you speak,
... yes, it makes my blood run cold when  I see them "walk right up to it" while the blades are at max RPM

But know when I talk of a 'second' person I'm talking about a 'helper' ...
... Someone who's been instructed on how to 'help' but more importantly they have been instructed on 'safety' and the issue that can arise out of playing helicopter!

As much as I hate "what-ifs" consider the gent who lost his life and what-if the guy had a 'helper' watching his back !?!

I think a helper or spotter is always good to have, although I am also guilty of flying alone from time to time.  Anyway, it is usually more fun to have another present.

Yah, crashes are no fun at all unless someone else witnesses it.  ;)

    That's for sure!  8)

Welcome back Bill.  How was camping?  Did you get any flying in?

    Thanks.
Camping was great and the plane flew really sweet off the water. My son took some video but I haven't seen it on the pc yet. Hopefully I should be able to get a little clip up in a day or two. :)

The local AMA group, "Rogue Valley Flyers", also had their Float Fly a week ago but I had to work so didn't get any photos or video.  I'm lloking forward to seeing your video.

So are you going to get to fly those Naza-H helicopters now?

It's been a couple of weeks since I flew the 500 and even longer for the 600.
I've got discouraged with the MD500 for now. It will likely sit on the shelf until winter until I mess with it again. Just can't get the tail issue sorted.

I think they made a new firmware again so you might have a look and see if you are on the current version.

For multirotor I am still a Naza-M fan, but I have to admit that the 3D Robotics APM 2.5 is looking really nice to me.
