Maybe you should sit the TX aside for a while?  ;)

I think you've got your priorities all wrong with that Rose Bowl crap.  :D

Sorry, my wife and her whole family are alumni. They are all at the game while we stay here and watch Kevin, our nephew. He loves spending time with us, and because of his needs, we're really the only ones able to, and trusted to, take care of him :)

Definitely football! It's been a part of his life since day one. Yesterday was his first RC "outting". Hard to compete...

Hey GC did you shorten the sticks?

The reason I ask is because when I shortened the sticks on my Tx I lost a bit the Throttle Sticks travel. What I saw was the top of the stick (fat part) butting up against the TOP of the Gimbal giving me a bit less total throw. But when I had the sticks at full length the skinny part of the stick would now be butting up against the TOP of Gimbal giving me just that much more throw. Hard to see exactly in the photo's here but I'm thinking this is what happening

Now given I like a short stick I found I needed to adjust the amount of throw the ESC needed or needed to see. However adjusting the throttle throw that the ESC needed would lesson the overall resolution of the sticks. This shouldn't be much of a problem as the ESC will use the available throw to give every bit of power the ESC is capable of giving

There should be a way in the ESC's Setup and Programming that allows you to adjust for the lesser overall throw. My Castle Creations ICE50 requires I setup the Throttle Range first. Before I setup anything else in the ESC or at least before I setup the Throttle Curve in the Tx. Regardless every ESC is most likely different so I can only speak in generalities

I struggled somewhat with the wording but look in your ESC's documentation as I believe this is where you will find the help you need. Especially so if the Tx's DOC is NO help. I'm guessing teh Tx's DOC isn't going to help here but I'm also NOT saying you shouldn't look. Just the ESC Documentation maybe more help in this case

Then again I could be totally wrong and it's different issue thus solution entirely {hehe} To say the least maybe this would ONLY help you setup your helicopter but an ESC is an ESC regardless of what we fly eh

EDIT: Castle Quick Tip- Throttle Calibration

I had mentioned setting the ESC to see the Throttle Stick Range, setting the End Points. This VID shows how it's done for the Castle Creation's ESC. Other makes should have something similar or may even have an Auto-Calibrating Mode. Anyways as an example here's the Castle Creations VID

Good eye w00d.  I went back and looked at Golden Child's photo and it looks like that could be the matter.

My DX7se also has adjustable sticks but I changed them to these large stick ends:

I haven't touched the sticks. But I'll try lengthening them to see if that helps. I'll do it in the morning as I am already on my way to bed (sad, yes!)

I've added a VID to the post, see EDIT

This issue aside it's still something any owner of Castle Creations ESC's should or needs to know ;) MOre

OK, so after rifling throught the manual and trying what I thought were the correct settings for my 450 heli, I came across a thread on helifreak.com mentioning downloading complete settings files for different planes/helis from the Spektrum community site. Went there, downloaded the blade 450 file, transferred it to my SD card, plugged it into the DX8, transeferred the file to an empty model, and BAM - done  The entire process took less then 30 seconds!!!
Did the same for me Blade mSR! What a FREAKING great way to program this Tx!!!!!!! LOVIN' IT ;D

That's pretty sweet.  I heard that you can save models to a SD card but being to downloading them just makes me want a DX8 even more.

BTW, I would check those Blade 450 setting carefully.  I know from my old Blade 400 that some servo settings were reversed compared to my Beam E4.

Just be careful w/ your CCpM heli before you FLY! For your mSR and heli's like it you'd be OK. However with a CPpM bird it's still alright cheating like this but your going to need to fine tune the GYRO's Gain setting and the "Zero Pitch" setting. Also check the amount of overall pitch, specifically checking your FULL pitch, Left/Right Pitch and Forward/Back Pitch making sure it's NOT binding at their maximums. Would also be a good idea to check everything else just to be sure as every helicopter is different. This method gets you in the ballpark but you still need to fine tune everything ... FYI: ;)

EDIT: LOL, Yoda beat me to it but you get the idea GC and, NOt forgetting to check the servo directions like I just DID

Whoa, easy there GC, an HK450 and Blade 450 are not the same, the elevator and alerons are on different ends of the heli from each other and although it may work out for the programming, it may also be reversed, usually at least one channel will need to be reversed, but you might get lucky. But as others said you need at least 0 collective pitch at mid stick with around 50% or better throttle while learning to fly. There is nothing more unstable than a slow rotor head while too much pitch.

And make sure your swashplate is level with the stick centered, even by looking at it by the eye you will need to fine tune the sub trims as it will want to roll over on lift off and explode while still on the ground. It will want to drift to the left when within 12" (325mm) of the ground because the in ground effect will turn the heli into an air hocky puck riding on a cushion of air and the tail rotor will shove it that way. So if you apply right sub trim for a steady hover within an elevation that is 1/2 of the rotor diameter, then it will drift to the right when you are 3' off the ground. So for perfect trimming, be about eye level in the hover 4'-5' approx.

an easy way to check for collective pitch is to find flat spots on the blade grips, or blades if there are any, tape small straight edges to them and when they line up you have no pitch, this is un-affeted by the flybar so no need to level it.

Haha! Thanks all! I was already on top of all that but it never hurts to be reminded ;) I have already checked all the servo travel directions and they're right on. The swashplate needed very little adjusting to get level at zero trim. I read several threads on other "heli" forums comparing the Align version with my HK version before deciding to use the file I downloaded. The file I used I understood would get me in the ballpark and I would still need to check reversing and subtrims/EPA's ;) I went this route not to get a "ready-made" solution, but to get past the "my mind is frickin' overloaded with all this stuff because I've been working 16-hour days for the last two weeks" issues ;D But like I said, it never hurts to be reminded - THANKS!!!!

There ya go ...  your on your game, you know what your doing which is good. Just needed to put it out there if not for you for anyone reading this, blindly copying and flying other peoples setups can lead to dire results. Yes it wasn't my intention to teach setting up Rc Helicopter's but was simply a warning. Anyway GC you know what your doing so nuff said ;)

When I first got into CNC I always wondered why nobody ever had G Code that you could download and make a part, then once I knew a little bit I realized that running G Code you didn't make yourself for a specific machine would be a complete disaster and possible human injury.

On another note, it looks like a busy weekend for me, both my new carburator for the 600 and all the parts I need to rebuild the 450 are scheduled for delivery today.

I should go live with my brother and his wife in Florida. LMAO I could handle some ALL year summer, beats the two month summer we get here!

Well, I did get the 450 done and flyable last night, but it looks really cold outside right now.........

I'll have to think about it, there is no FPV or Co Pilot II though, so I am just a Hover Queen again  :)
