Guess I'll have to see one in person to know what the "aux unit" is and what it does. Maybe someone will bring their's to Redwood tomorrow??? ;)

GC - What I was talking about is a little box attached to the main NAZA unit that mounts to the bottom of the quad.  It has the BEC, the flashing lights you've seen, and the USB port for programming.  It comes with the NAZA.

DJI calls it the Versatile Unit (VU).

Hong Kong showed me some love today ;) The complete power setup for my Scorpion arrived!!! My actual Scorpion airframe HAS finally left the shipping warehouse and is on its way ;D I will start a build thread when it arrives and post details and links for all the components I am using. I think I have finally decided to go with the new kk2.0 controller (with a little nudging from Tiger) and possibly upgrade when all the new super-controllers have had some flight time and people have posted actual in-hands reviews. I am currently torn between the Naza with it's GPS option, and the Arducopter Electronics Set from UDrones (see GPS' thread here - http://southernoregonrc.com/index.php?topic=1493.0). But in the meantime here are a few teaser pics...

I see the motors have the shaft coming out the "wrong" end for quad use.  I have noticed this on several motors and Rick told me that on the motors he and Tiger are using he sawed them off with a Dremmel.

I was wondering about that and was not considering those motors just because of that point.  But couldn't you remove the shaft and turn it around?

In most cases, yes. I haven't looked closely at the motors Rick and John use, but I presume they would have if they could have. I also haven't looked closely at mine yet - but same scenario - I will if I can. Otherwise I'll just cut mine as well. I also bought six replacement shafts, so no worries ;)

Yay!  I can't wait to see that Scorpion fly.

Did you look at the motors and find out if the shafts can be reversed?

    Hi Tiger

After reading a little on 'Opto-isolation'

WiKi: "In electronics, an opto-isolator, also called an optocoupler, photocoupler, or optical isolator, is "an electronic device designed to transfer electrical signals by utilizing light waves to provide coupling with electrical isolation between its input and output".[1] The main purpose of an opto-isolator is "to prevent high voltages or rapidly changing voltages on one side of the circuit from damaging components or distorting transmissions on the other side"

    So 'Opto-isolation' offers protection from 'high-volts' ...

... Is the inclusion of 'high-voltage' isolation within the controller to address a specific issue and known problem beside protecting from the obvious unregulated Battery and ESC/BEC sources of the stray current or is it simply there (as they say) as part of the 'good engineering'  [IMG]

... Also thinking w/ all the plastic moving through the AIR at high-speed maybe this type of isolation offers best or better protection from [acronym=Electrostatic Discharge]ESD[/acronym] or 'Static'  [IMG]

Would ya mind filling in the gaps - Thanks in Advance

Actually, individually the components are very reasonably priced. The motors for instance were only $18 each. It's just when you multiply all of it by six that you realize how deep you're into it ;)

As for the pics, I was just lazy and took them with my iPhone and posted them directly instead of breaking out a better camera and posting/linking to photobucket.

I am actually not going to be doing much of anything for a few weeks - I blew my knee out and am having a hard time getting around (of course you wouldn't know anything about that, would you ;) ) Between the difficulty in mobility and the loopiness of the pain medication, I don't think I should try anything intricate for awhile :-\

{pst} I DO know about PAIN medication LOOPINESS, but 'shush' don't TELL anyone ...

Hey Mike, I heard about your injury at the float fly.  Bad timing.  Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
