Article in the local paper mentions that our local ODF is working on a "drone", but the article says don't call it a "drone". "Drones" are evil things you know! http://www.thedailycourier.com/articles/2014/06/05/front_page_news/news001.txt ...Tiger
John, The link to the article seems to be behind a paywall. Can you copy the article and paste it here?
Not sure about doing this so here is just a snip of the part of interest: "ODF has another trick up its sleeve for firefighting. "We're building a drone," Ballou said. The military wants firefighting agencies to stay away from the term drone, said Jes Webb of Rural/Metro Fire Department. So it's being called an unmanned aerial craft, said Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association. At 5 feet long, it will be sent into a fire with a video camera to get a close look without risking the safety of firefighters. "We want to be able to use it like a scout," Ballou said. "We send that drone in, and it takes a look around. I think that's going to have some real use." It will not be operated by a distant operator using satellite, but by someone within line of sight, making its range somewhat limited. The regulatory paperwork to use the craft is immense, and ODF hopes to have it available by July, Ballou said."
Congrats keep us updated Please. Also it would be nice to be able to do a job to fly RC and help others vs flying for fun.
I think it would be really neat to be part of something new like this that is history in the making. Also something new to help others and by putting a flir camera on it to help with wildfires or search and rescue. I would switch my jobs in a heart beat to be part of something like this.
