I am free on the weekends generally so let me know when you guys are planning to do this and I will pitch in on the rental and help set things up.
I have a truck and trailer and would be more than willing to pickup and haul. I'm also good for a couple hours of the rental bill. When and where?
When? How bout the next sunny Saturday? Where? 319 W Jones creek,Grants Pass Minutes from exit 55. We will have to maybe figure out a bridge to drive over the ditch into the parking area of the track. That's so we don't slop up the main drive way and piss off the neighbors. I will snap some pics for turn by turn picture directions. Let me know what you guys think, txt or call before 8pm @ 541-441-1004
I've got a meeting at the fairgrounds next week so I can see if that offer for the equipment still stands, and if it is applicable for off fairgrounds usage. I will post what I find out then.
Ok. Some thoughts. This is great news. But.... You should really have a better plan ahead of you if you're all going to do this right. Maybe I'm mistaken and you are all friends and know exactly what's going on. If not, who's a journeyman equipment operator on here besides me? I wouldn't think that all of our hard-earned money would be thrown at a skid steer rental just so you guys could play on it. $40/hr for rental is a wee bit steep. That's $320/day. That's about twice as much I rent equipment for. Don't forget fuel (~$4.00/gal). And fuel for the tow rig hauling the equipment. Try Grants Pass rentals or Valley Equipment Rental. Depending on where you get it from, you'll have to accomodate time for pick up and drop off as well. I would gladly commit to be the P.I.C. for the equipment, but need a definite time. Hauling is no problem for me. You're gonna want to schedule your rental at least a week ahead of time as well. Skid steer's are a hot commodity and usually rent fast on the weekends. A plain old tractor with a loader bucket and a box scraper would suffice if anyone is hiding one from us..... Is there fill dirt available? On site? GPNate is right, do you have a track design in mind? GP Racer: "We will have to maybe figure out a bridge to drive over the ditch into the parking area of the track." What's up with that? Is that for the skid steer or general parking? Is that something that needs figured before we all come out? I'm not trying to be a downer, but it's just not that simple. I've done this type of thing before and it's just a cluster f*** and a waste of my time if all the bugs aren't worked out. On the other hand, it sounds like were all rednecks and could get it done no matter what! Or do I stand alone....hehe I have 1" hardwood-plywood (5 sheets I would let go for this), I have some old 4" Drain pipe -NOT perf pipe- (100' +/-), and I have about 175 old tires ranging from asphalt race tires to tractor (semi) tires. Good Luck. You set a time, I will still try to be there even with everything I said above.
Yeah I've had this spot since September so I have been tryin to figure things out. Me and the land owner went down to the business center to see what it would take to make it a legal track and not just a club type of thing. And so far the land owner,my friend bobby,my friend Matt and my friend George are all journeyman operators. If we do it soo we will be able to get bobby and georges dump truck to bring some dirt in if needed. I have a truck for towing available to me. Matt has a kabota but its not free. I have a few track designs in mind and some ideas drawn down but I wanted the over all track layout to be a collaboration of everyone who helps build it,that way everyone really enjoys driving in it that much more. Fill dirt? We can do whatever we want to the field besides drop the only tree on the spot. And the main driveway really belongs to the neighbor in back but was taken to court to make it an easement but I heard the neighbour gets butthurt over the thought of us using the driveway for public use. That's why we would have to makeshift a bridge over the ditch to drive into the field, otherwise its 6k just to ask the city for permission to put a actual driveway over it,and that's just to ask we could spend that 6k just for them to tell us no we cant do it. So I say we make a little bridge 4 of us could drag over the ditch for the days we use the field.
I like the sound of this, except for the makeshift bridge. Could we bring in gravel up to the entrance of the lot to keep the neighbor off our ass? I will come out and help as long as I don't have plans. I can also donate 40$ towards the equipment. I agree with above that this should be done right. Get a solid plan together before bringing equipment out. I can draw up anything on AutoCAD as well, I was a CAD drafter for a solid 10 years. It would be nice to have a plan to excavate off of for the tracks, fully dimensioned. This way we can measure and stake out the course in advance. I am assuming this is the lot? What ditch are you planning on bridging? and which neighbors driveway are we going to upset?
That's the lot,the driveway is just under the bottom line. The ditch is in between the main road and the front of the field(far left in the pic) Also not too sure the neighbor will be happy unless we stop using it all together. I hear his boys a thief so i dont wanna try to barter with letting him use the track at will. I figure a makesift (doesn't mean it can't be official quality) until we get it goin. Lol how bout a draw bridge? I have steel too so I could fab up a all steel bridge?
I think it would be a good idea if we organized a time to which most or all of the people interested in making this happen get together and check out the property. I think we all want to make something happen and it seems to me that meeting at the location to discuss the logistics would be the first step. Is there anyone that is not free on the weekends? Possibly afternoon, evening time?
Looks to me that more than one person live on that rd. I would tell him to f off, but that's me. Can we not build our own entry to the rd with culvert and dirt? If they county is going to charge you to even ask for one (which is bs IMO) You should be able to do the work yourself. Steel will work too.
Yeah in down to have a meet n greet at the spot. And theres 3 other residence that use the driveway but its originally his deal and i think if he wanted to fork up the funds he could gain full right to it and ban anyone else from using it which is what i think he would do of he could. As far as the covert the 6k was just to ask permission not counting any materials or work. My father inlaw (land owner) would rather build it himself too but its gonna cost. Just about anytime weekend and anytime weekday is cool for me.
Why don't you propose a date and time and a meeting place in downtown Grants Pass, like a coffee shop. That way we can have a chance to meet each other then follow someone who know exactly where it is.
Ok. Meet spot:thinking close to exit 55 incase someone coming from far away can find it,applebees parkinglot work? Day:1/08/2012 this coming Sunday? And noonish? Will that work for everybody?
Works for me. I like how this is coming together. Seems like we have the man power and the know how to put something rather impressive together. Planning now will only contribute to a better track.....
A removeable bridge idea that I've used before is to fill the ditch with firewood, stacked well of course. This would allow everyone with a truck to pass over. Just remove when done! It all depends on the depth and width of course. Most likely it would take a cord or so. Stacked lumber works too, just doesn't take up as much volume with less materials. The point is it would get you in. The whole $6k business just doesn't add up. A driveway approach permit from the county is about $250, but whatever. As far as the skid steer or tractor goes, we could just back up the trailer and straddle the ditch to unload from the trailer.
