I had your dilemma also when looking at scale fuselages.  It's hard to sacrifice a already built and well flying helicopter for a scale fuselage.

Some of the builds that I've seen they test the airframe before installing it in the fuselage.

In retrospect this was the mistake I made, I should have tested before stuffing inside my fuse  :(

Still with ALL the additional info I'm finding or getting AFTER the FACT should HELP when I get back into the build  ::)

Sort of inspires and challenges me to get back at while the Cabin Fever season approaches 8)

Yes wOOd, you've got to get that little gun ship flying, and yes it's great for keeping cabin fever at bay, does for me any way.  ;)

I was thinking a block of wood of the appropriate weight and height in place of landing gear might work for testing.

There are a few more photos I'll post a little later this morning.  :)

Yes this is also what I've read ...
... The more blades we swing the easier it's supposed to get. I LIKE IT because it's also LESS "Fly-by-Wire" and more piloting skills in the flying
TIP: Also keeping the Center of Gravity (CG) LOW as possible or practical will also add to teh overall stability ;)

Well it was my intention to put this build on the back burner for the purpose of MORE researching, meh the TIME is near. However it does require I strip my TRex450 again but we do what we need to do, eh. Think this time I'll try w/ the TRex Main Rotor instead of the SCale rotor to TEST teh weight issue ... And for the Tail and given how high-up she spins I can afford to spin a slightly larger (longer) Tail Blade !?! Although I think the issue there is a "binding" issue in the Pushrod Linkage or may even be a servo issue where it may have too little torque. Generally Tail Servo's are built for speed so I'm thinking it may have less than the required torque !?! Anywayz plenty to TEST and digest upon but she WILL FLY jus gotta GET it DONE  8)

EDIT: Ummm thinking again, smell the w00d burning  I do have a 4S Motor (Neu) and 4S Lipo ...
... Thinking if "tweaking" don't FIX my woe's we could try teh Brute-Force approach !?!

Yup given enough Power-to-Weight as I like to say "THEY" can even MAKE a BRICK fly ...
... But of course this can be as simple as tossing a brick at door to door salesman and equally quite FUN to  ;D
Ummm FUN with Mathematics and BRICKS, if satellite needs a speed of 25,000 mph at an altitude of 90 miles to maintain an
orbit what speed would a BRICK need to maintain an orbit at an altitude of 5 feet?
... Lets see a "salesman" get in they way of that {inset evil grin here} ...
Yes it's a boring day around here today were reduced to picking on the poor salesman, meh it's raining!  ;D ;D

LOL, more WORK though as that Motor is my mini PRÔTOS ... but again ya does what ya needs to get done ...
I was going to strip the mini anyway to build the BEAM I promised to buy from a very fine fellow I know around here [IMG]

Here are a few pictures. The first is what I found after I opened the package containing the tail group.
I contacted HeliDirect for a replacement part and they were very gracious about getting one to me but said it would have to be a different color. Seems that Fusuno is getting out of the scale fuselage business and are not providing parts any more.  ???

The others are just progress to date.  :)

I don't know if I get it Bill.  In the top photo is the tip broken off and re-affixed with a screw?  What is the piece to the right?

Sounds like they are treating you right.  The only bummer might be paint matching.  The fuselage (second photo) sure is looking nice!  The head too.

I should look like the vertical fins attached to the tail plane on the rear of this heli. It broke off just above the screw.

Here it is in the upper part of this photo. You can see the broken bit laying under the tail plane. I didn't even notice it until I opened the package.

I see now, thank you Bill.  Do you have to return the broken part?  If not, removal of the screw and some epoxy with some sanding and paint might come out really nice.

There is a new part on the way. The only issue is color. It will not be red. Hopefully white or blue to match the fuse and I wont have to paint.  ;)

The red on the broken part looks like the red I used on my OFNA Hyper 10SC short course truck body.  It was Pactra "Bright Red" (P/N RC287) in case you want to get a can and see if it matches.

    Thanks.  ;)
I'll keep that in mind. My hopes are, I won't have to paint, the parts should be by Saturday so we'll see....
I had considered epoxying the part like you mentioned but it would have been a pretty fragile fix. My next idea was balsa or some sheet graphite and just make some. That too, would have required painting.  ::)

Grrrr... the new tail pieces are black.  :(
Looks like I may have to find some of the red paint. Did you get that locally or online Yoda?

I got mine at our local hobby shop Mild to Wild Hobby House in Grants Pass, but I'm pretty sure A Main Hobbies also has it.

Break the other side and tell em your very sorry but didn't notice because when you opened
the parts bag it had fallen under the Waffle Maker and didn't notice it also was "broked" ....
HaHa Could tell em it was a LuftWAFFLE Waffel Maker which will put em into puzzle mode so they
send ya another JUST to make ya go away. But now you have two matching BLACK parts!
{ROTF-LMAO} No PAINT was harmed in bringing you this production of Night of teh Crazies by [shadow=Orange,left]w00d[/shadow]

They were very good about it wOOd, more so than I might have been. I can imagine all the BS they get from some of their less than forthright customers.
They actually sent the whole tail section, not just the fins.   Just in black.  :(

Yoda, if I sent the broken bit to you, would you check it against the paint color you used?  It would save me buying a can and finding out it isn't right.
I'ed be forever grateful to ya.  :-*    Errrr...  forget the kiss, but I would be grateful.  ;)

The main frame came today so I've got a little more to assemble now.
Still struggling with the motor decision. There are not many lower KV motors in the 500 size. HK has several but only this one in stock. With a 11T pinion it should run the blades about 1900 rpm.  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=11182
Then this E-flight with a 14T would run about the same speed. http://www.advantagehobby.com/103477/EFLM4025H/?cat=351

    Thank you sir.
I'll drop it in the mail tomorrow. No need to send it back though, I'm not going to repair it and I have the other half if I need to check color else where.
I've not checked the LHS yet but I see Advantage hobby carries the paint, couldn't find it at A Main Hobbies.
