Hey I am new to the hobby and just came across Southern Oregon RC and have posted an ad on craigslist: http://medford.craigslist.org/grp/3515352399.html hoping to find out if there are people interested in forming a group/club.

It seems there might already be a group/club.?.?.?  I am interested in helping make a track and just learning more about the hobby and my car. I have an Traxxas Rustler VXL that is stock for now.  Want to learn more about the hobby to pass onto my kids.
I have a tractor, atv, and riding lawn mower and tools to help an anyway I can.  I just need to know whom to contact.  Please contact me though the craigslist ad with RC in the Header and reply with your contact information to include first name and a phone number.

Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you soon.

Wow, way to bring back memories, Jammin' trucks! And that paint, I'd never do that anymore!

SC Late Mod oval is growing up north, I'm totally down for that (along with the offroad classes)

I used to come up to Medford every weekend to race Oval (back in the stone age when Betty & Gene had the track in town) I'm sure that if there was an Oval in the Southern Oregon area that there would be racers in the Redding area that would come up & race. You need to check out the DODC (dirt oval)web site, Rattlesnake Raceway is our track. Just go look for dirt oval .com forums, you can download the current rules for both the Best Of The West traveling series, & Rattlesnake Raceway's own rules for 2013, there is currently a great division that will run well on both a "loose dirt" & "high Bite" type track it is the "Street Stock" class that is based on the off road buggy style cars,in the BOTW, it is limited to Street Stock type stock car bodies, but our local rules allow the newer Late Model style bodies, it is open to any of the rear engined two wheel drive off road chassis,it is a "spec" class as far as batteries & motors are concerned to keep the real high dollar stuff from dominating, just read the rules about it, anything from the newer B-4 cars to the OLD Gold Tub RC 10's are running in this class and it is a very competitive fairly low dollar class that is a ton of fun, Our other major class is 360 Sprint cars, this is a higher dollar high speed class that draws the majority of the cars. Check out the rules, KEEP the Oval, & let us know. Like they said in the movie "build it & they will come. Thanks, Good Luck in your racing venues, Del Streetman (horsepower)

@ horsepower, i appreciate your interest in rc racing in our area.  However, the speed at which the county has allowed "new" potential operators is "racing snail" at best.  Due to this perpetual dragging of feet much of my resources have been diverted to other things.  Basically, i was saving money through the winter to help kick start this facility again.  Now it's spring time and not a word, actually i am now able to submit an application with the county as of last week.  I am not sure i want to work with this tight of a schedule, given other develpements in our racing community (potential indoor track grants pass).
@ RC community, I apologize for not updating this thread.  It's not looking good for the white city facility.  As our county does not want to help in any way, and is compounding the "issues" at hand.  i'm not sure of the current shape of facility after winter, I know the county allowed former operator to essentially steal the pipe on off road track.  I will not replace it out of my pocket.  Also, the amount of time i could have track available to the public would be minimal.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties with the city.  Do you have any idea why they are so slow, or do you feel it just typical government bureaucracy?

I bet Gene and Betty put on some Ninja costumes and snuck in there in the middle of the night and took out that pipe.    ;D

well i had a meeting with the county.  And per county the piping was loose and just blowing around, so they allowed former operators to remove it.  why would you remove it for any reason other to hinder the next group of rc racers monetarely .  not saying betty and gene personally did anything, but they (whoever ) physically did take the pipe formerly attatched to that property.  Low class move IMO.  also it was staked into the ground (have google earth photos to prove it).  It's purely a "if we can't have it, then nobody can" attitude.  I've lost count of the amount of hours of free labor i donated, and $ spent to power the mowers/trimmers that I (and others ran) .  i'm not accusing anybody, their actions prove it fact.

    @ cripplek
btw, not your buddy, don't get cute with me. :) :) :)  I put in hundreds of hours so did countless others.  How many hours have you put in ?  How many races/events did you participate in ?

i dont know you,you dont know me,i have no beef with no one,ive spent quite a long time at the track, its a bummer it had to shut down but the lack of intereast and constant complaining shut it down, all gene and betty wanted was for a club and enjoy the sport they loved for 30 years, they paid for alot of that stuff out at the park with theyre own money, yes they paid for the pipe, 8)

lackof interest in being around "those" closed minded individuals is what killed it.  The pipe was donated to the club by United Pipe, was attatched to the property and therfore county property.  what they wanted was for time to stand still, and not to embrace the changes this hobby was about to endure.  the "mom and pop" shop mentality is awesome, i totally respect that, i was a customer since i was a little boy.  However, once i and many others before me uncovered the ugly truth, we wanted change.  Change was never embraced well, they knew everything in their minds, and refused to grow as people and as an organization.  The interest was actually very high, consistently k-falls had more rv racers than wc.  This all sounds so convoluded, yet really is very simple.  Be nice to people, embrace change, race have fun.  you are correct i'm sure that over the years they (b & g) have spent their own money.  However, these last few go rounds, all of the expenses were footed by the club dues, race practice fees, and private donations of individual club members (materials, gas, labor etc).  I know they did do a lot for the hobby locally, over the years (as they should being in that industry)  At a certain point they were doing more harm than good, many realized this and jumped ship.  They purchased that shop, did not start it though.  these are the facts.  In my opinion they may have never loved the hobby,or just lost the love, when people disagreed w/ them on many issues.

no worries, the "pipe" issue struck a cord with me too.  as that's the single biggest expense.  prolly cost me close to a grand to replace, and that's gonna be hard if i wanna do anything but put all my time and $ into that track this year.  nothing worth having should come easy.  I am a racer, i absolutley love it, and can't wait for others to experience that level of fun, sportsmanship and all that other gushy stuff.  that "white pipe" was old and used, but was very high quality that lasted years, i will not be able to replace that kind of piping.  thats why the removal of that pipe was adding insult to injury in my mind.  the final vengeful stab, in a stupid grudge.

on a positive note:  rc cars r cool :) lets have fun this season wherever it may be, gp, wc, kfalls, jacksonville, cottage grove, redding, chico.  some tracks are too far for most, but worth the trip IMO.  it's just too much fun to not go ;D

I was at the gokart track last Wed. & am pretty sure the pipe was there then-I could see a white border from the back gate at the kart track....maybe some one should talk w/ the range officers next door and find out if they have seen any thing (?)

what you saw was the white border around the oval (maybe a 4ft pc of tubing), but they took all of the pipe from the inside of oval, and from the off road.  It's not there, the county aknowledged the fact that they let them take it due to it just blowing around.  (which it wasn't, it was staked in ground), they also took some other things, they even went as far as removing the steel(square tubing) poles that they used as a pit area fence.  I could care less about the poles, cordage, garbage cans. it's the pipe that's that big deal, but its pretty much a moot point now.  maybe they could've got rid of the mound of junk & debris too, but no.

So austin, is the white city track a bust? No go for this year? I could prob donate some pipe when I move up to medford, cuz I will have to level my track in yreka. But if its a no go, I will just donate it to my other buddies in yreka. I probably have a few hundred feet laying around
