OK, so my latest project was a "paper" airplane. Yes, I said was... Got home from flying this morning and had the bug to get it finished. Found all the parts, got it all together, and went outside.
First flight, I had my elevon mixing backward so went straight into the ground :-[ Second flight, all mixing corrected, too nose heavy and couldn't compensate enough with power/up elevator. again, into the ground. Third flight, cheap Dollar Store foam board had had enough and broke apart in mid air Results are below... Going to add some wing surface and move CG more to the rear. Will have back together by mid day tomorrow
Oh, it broke at the place where there is a notch for the propeller. Sorry to hear that. Looking forward to seeing version 2.
I've got plenty of carbon tubes, just didn't want to use them until I tested the airframe. I'll add the carbon to V2 on the leading edges of the wings and along the bottom. Won't add much weight but will definitely make for a more rigid airframe! I've also got some black foam board... maybe a "stealth" paper airplane???
I've got the plans for that. I've actually got the plans for most planes in flat foamie form. The more intricate designs (fighter aircraft, hydroplanes, etc.) need a higher quality foam. EPP in some cases, but mostly they use Depron. No one that I've found here in the valley carries anything like that. I'd have to order online. And to be cost effective, I'd have to order in case quantities and I'm not ready to drop $200+ on "projects" just yet
Haven't seen what they have @ Staples. If it has paper on the outsides, then it's the same as the Dollar Store foam board. If it's just foam with no other covering, then maybe I'll have to go check it out and see Let me know. And thanks!!
I think it has paper on the outside (both sides) or at least some coating. I will pay attention better next time I am over there. I just remember it from a trip there a while back getting some office supplies....and checking out the Motorola Xoom tablet!
