I don't suppose you found that out starting it up in the house.  ;)

Nope, just out the back door though.  ;)
To nasty to even try today. Supposed to be a little sun out tomorrow, hopefully.

I hope you get some sun too.  I really want to hear your report on that Naza-H.

I've got the first few flights (hovers) in this afternoon between showers. The back yard is a little tight for the 600 so it was a little nerve wracking in the beginning. I had to do a little trimming to get her to sit still in manual mode and turn the gyro down a bit in the TX. In AttI mode it is very docile and stayed put pretty well. In GPS mode it drifted away from where I hit the switch only a couple of feet or so and then stayed put. She acts just like the ones you see in the videos.  ;D

That sounds great Bill.  Thank you for the feedback.  Would you say you are happy with your purchase, or is it too early to tell yet?

I heard this Sunday should be good weather, at least down here.

Yes, I think I happy with it.  ;D

I do need a little more work on the cyclic trims when we get a little more dry weather. I also noticed that when in GPS mode I was not getting full satellite coverage, probably from being so close to the house and trees.

Hope Santa is good to you all, he's been good to me.  ;)

The Naza-M is the same.  I've noticed that if you are near tall trees getting a good GPS lock is slow, or not possible.  When I absolutely had to fly near tall trees what I do is hop up to tree top height and hover manually until I get the lock.  You can see a big difference then.

As I menitoned earler, after initially installing and testing the NAZA-H I found it required quite a number of clicks of forward and right trim in the TX to get the heli to hover fairly well in manual mode and after getting the trims set, it did quite well in atti and gps modes.

Thinking I could remove some of the trim needed in the TX by going back and checking the swash for level again, I found the right side servo to swash link to be out about two turns and fixed that. The need for forward trim was likely due to testing without the canopy on making the heli a little tail heavy.

Then thought I should do a reset of the software and start from scratch which I did. Also set all the TX limits back to the starting position like starting from scratch.

Now when flying in normal mode she sits in a hover as well as can be expected but when switching to atti or gps modes she drifts to the right just lit did before doing the link adjustment. In gps the drift will only be a few feet to the right then stops and maintains position there.  ???

    Any ideas?

    Hi Bill -
I found a few things that were not well described that helped me a lot with the Naza-M.

    - Magnetic Declination Offset
You're GPS unit needs to be slightly "rotated" clockwise for our geographical location.  I believe about 15 degrees.

    - GPS Antenna Offset
This is under the mounting tab in the DJI assistant software.  Make sure this is pretty accurate.

    - GPS Calibration
To do this you need to flip your attitude/manual mode switch a bunch of times (8?) and actually rotate the airframe in two attitudes, once parallel to the ground and once perpendicular while watching the LED.

When I originally setup my Naza-M I was getting the "Toilet Bowl" effect in GPS mode.  Even with a good GPS lock my hexacopter would start making ever larger spiraling circles outwards.  After doing the above three adjustments I was able to get a rock steady GPS lock and hover.

    I hope this helps you.

    Thanks for the ideas John.

I do have the gps unit set straight with the tail boom, so I'll reset it as you mentioned.

The antenna offset is measured  pretty accurately and entered in the software so I can check that one off.

I was looking at the quick start guide again and notice that during gps calibration the second step requires the heli be rotated 360 degrees in the tail up attitude. I believe I did that the other way around. I'll recalibrate too.  ;)

This guy describes the compass calibration pretty well.

Ya, that's the one. I think i got out of step last time.  ;D

I went counter clockwise and had the tail down instead of up.

Last evening I reset the gps with declination offset of about 15 degrees.
Today I did the dance again, properly.
LED's on start up indicate all is well with all satellites being detected most of the time.
Hovers very well in normal mode.
Switch to atti and it goes into the right drift.
Switch to gps and now it stays put very nicely.*
Setting here on the bench in normal mode, throttle just above center and flip to atti the aileron servos do a little jump setting the swash a little to the right. Does the same thing on the bench if switched from normal to gps but in flight it holds position with no drift to the right.
*After about 25 or 30 seconds of hover in gps mode the heli starts doing some shaking like the gyro is set to high. I tuned it down some but it still does it. Didn't do this before.
One step froward one back.    ::)

Sounds like your gains to me Bill.  Can you post them for us?

Gyro gains in the TX are set at 45% down from default of 80% in my Futaba radio.
On the common page of the software under advanced I have set "TailGyro" to 80%.
I've not changed any thing else.

You will most likely need to tweak the pitch, roll, yaw vertical and attitude gains in the Naza assistant software on the autopilot tab, that's where a lot of the magic happens.  What are those set to now?

Those are all at the 100% default settings. Go up or down from there?

I have to go out the LHS today for a set of tail blades before I can do more testing.

I think mine are around 120-140%, I would have to have a look.  Try searching YouTube to see if anyone has made a Naza-H gains video.
