I know the people at the fairgrounds. We should get together and discuss what we're looking for and what we're willing to give/pay in exchange for that. Then I/we can go to the fairgrounds and offer our proposal for consideration, then get back to our RC community to see who all are willing to get onboard. This is something we can discuss with Nathan if he's interested, or even Dennis if he is up for it.
I wasn't planning on going into town tomorrow, but, if my wife doesn't have plans for me, I could meet you at M2W and we can give this some more consideration. Let me know if you're meeting up with Sean at 2:00 still and I'll try to make it.

Agree.  I think we need to put to paper exactly what we want to accomplish before we approach others, otherwise we will seem unorganized and not very attractive to "sponsors".  If we have a good plan even the city might be worth talking to as they have land all over the place.

Great thought on the "city" aspect! I'll be at M2W @2. I have a few other ideas/concepts that might be worth discussing...

Ooh, just saw your reply to Pile of Toys - Re: 1/10th Summit. Whenever you're available, give me a ring and we'll throw around some ideas :)

I'm waiting for Pile of Toys to reply in the other thread about the Summit.  It looks like Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

How about Tuesday at 2 PM at Mild to Wild, then we can go and visit Bartjuice at Sleadd's?

I won't be able to make it - I work weekdays until 3:30 so I wouldn't be able to make it back to town until around 4:00. If you could hold out 'till then I'd love to be there :)

I might still be at Mild to Wild, or in town at 4 PM.  You can call me when you are leaving work.  Maybe we can still get to Sleadd's?

Interesting comments. I'll see if I can pull some strings over here at the expo. I am also going to see what RVMX (rogue valley motocross) can offer us. Lots of options in White City as well.

I'm assuming no one on this forum has any land. If so, we could construct a pole barn and at least have a "dry"  off road facility. If it goes belly-up, you've still got hay storage!

There's also possibilities of an indoor carpet track. Can double as SC, ST, or BGY.  Put in jumps for the off road, remove them for the on road.

Having been engulfed in the world of Paintball for a number of years, I really believe that success for a facility that charges use, has to have rental equipment available. It's a factor that needs to be present in the minds of whoever begins to really organize a track, in my opinion.

Once again, I'm fairly new to the hobby, overall, but I think it's in my favor. Looking from outside the box, everyone has good ideas, and we all desire something. It just needs to be done carefully. I'm sure one of you will tell me I'm wrong. That tends to happen when I open my mouth!

    Just some thoughts

BigJoe - No one here will tell you you're wrong :) Everyone has opinions and all are welcome. You're letting my secret out of the bag though ;) In post #22 above, that is exactly what I was eluding to! I have an acre of unused land that I am considering devoting to this very cause. The major obsticle (other than my wife !!!) is - in my experience, when people don't have an investment in something, there tends to be a severe lack of respect/responsibility in the participants. I was thinking exactly as you were with the pole barn idea. If we can organize a fundraiser (we would need to have an actual, registered club for tax/insurance purposes), we would be able to get everyone involved and each person, and local businesses (sponsors) would have an investment in its success. This is precisely what we are needing to talk about, regardless of where the venue ultimately winds up. Thank you very much for your input! This is exactly why these threads are started ;)
And oh yeah, sorry about the Civil War game :( Maybe we can put our fourth-string in next time  Up next... UCLA and then the Rose Bowl!!!!!

I've drifted away from that hobby. Still have all my gear but just too expensive for my taste each time I wanted to go out. I'm not aware of anyone who might be interested in paintball anymore. I've even lost touch with the people I played with.

Pile of Toys, Golden Child and I met with Bartjuice at Sleadd's last night and had a chat about track locations.  Bartjuice told us of a unused place at the Fair Grounds and afterwards Golden Child and I went to check it out.  We estimated it's size at around 109' x 80', it has a roof and even lights.  Golden Child managed to get the lights to turn on via a quarter in what seems t be a timer on a electrical box.
The place would be awesome if we could manage to get use of it and night racing in any weather would be possible.

I'm not meaning to rain on everyone's parade here so please don't take it as that, but if you want to build something that more than just a few people on this forum are going to come to then it needs to be in the vicinity of at least 150' X 100'  This opinion does come from ALOT of experience in the matter.  Smaller tracks will die out as they have in the past, large tracks open to more forms will have people traveling to you.  Here's some pics to give you guys some ideas.

These are tracks that the OSS which is a small group of guys have put together, we found that it takes roughly five acres of land to properly build a track and perform a race.

That is a great track.  Is that the track at Chad's parents house?  I heard that track is not open to the public, only for events.

It would be great to have five acres, but I don't see anyone stepping up for that.  The fairgrounds would be better than nothing by a long shot, and one thing it has going for it is night driving because there are great lights and also driving when it is raining because there is a roof.

And it's in Grants Pass, how cool is that?

A couple of the pictures are from Chad's track were we hold OSS series events, some are from the track in Eugene and some from Bend.  Many of us that are actually into the hobby travel literally hundreds of miles for a good track and camp for 2-4 days for an event.  Also these events cost in the vicinity of $45-$225 dollars for entry and camp sites.  Like I'm trying to say there is money to be had but the venue must be up to the task at hand.

Excellent pics and great input Sinistercad!!! Thank you! Its great to hear from someone that actually is involved in racing and makes the effort to travel to the good tracks. That tidbit will be VERY important in the planning stage if we're going to make it work long-term. Especially the overnight aspect. Plenty of room at the fairgrounds for that and they even have concessions available on the premises for bigger events! I think this is the avenue we want to persue for the immediate goal of getting a track together. I went back to the site today on my way home and got actual measurements of the arena at 120'x100'. This is the area for the track itself with virtually unlimited parking/overnight camping space available.
If we use Adam's track scetch and go with a scale of (one square=three feet) then we have a track roughly 48'x100'. That would leave plenty of room for a driver's platform and pit area. Plus - room to spare for a practice track/crawler track, even a  bigger main track, etc.

The tracks in the picture are roughly 200'x250'  We do this because the real RC tracks like the nitro pit are 300+ feet around.  The people I can bring into the scene are mostly 1/8 gasser guys since that is the standard racing platform.  I know alot of people run 1/10 scale SC trucks but the bigger slice of the pie lies in 1/8th racing.  That is the reason for the needed space on the track.  And just to push this point a bit further it is almost the SOLE reason the medford RVRC track closed down was due to them ripping down the large track and running tenth scale.  We were charging upwards of $30 per class entry into that track and they took it politically away, tore it down, made little one foot jumps and said NO to 1/8th scale.  Then it died.
