You could do that with a multirotor better!  ;)

The nice thing about a kite is that it comes with a rock solid RTH function.  ;D

Unless your string breaks!! lol :)

As to the kite platform as a AP/AV vehicle... The rig pictured above seem like is would work (HobbyKing!), but wouldn't you want a stabilizer board on it? It is after all a camera gimbal mount. I see a servo, Rx, video Tx, and what looks like a hard case battery pack. Just seems reasonable to stabilized the camera. From what I remember of flying kites, they're pretty erratic! Not to mention they frequently come down hard - ouch!

    Just my 326 pesos!

They are shooting stills and not video so I don't think the gimbal is all that important.  They have 5.8GHz video coming down so they can see exactly what they are shooting.  Still... I agree they are most of the way to a stabilized gimbal so why not go the rest of the way.  Maybe they just want to keep it simple.  Something to be said for that!

Some of the shots seemed quite high, I could see the balloon kite getting up there though.

I don't know what kind of kite it is, but here is a picture they posted of it.

Yes, some of those balloon kites look quite capable and are quite expensive ... WOW, $1855.57cad

EDIT: Although, I think I would side with Tiger in so much as they are more suited for 'stills' rather than fast action videos ?

That was fun watching them trying to keep control. You wouldn't want a little guy holding the line. :)
The camera seemed to swing around a lot in it's sling, must have been using a pretty fast shutter setting?

LMAO, yeah it looked there's quite a bit a pull from that type of kite ...
... at one point it looked like they smacked the camera on the ground ??

Hey, let's put on some waders and go sit in the water somewhere.  Since we'll be just sitting there in the water we might as well fly a kite.  We can also attach a camera to the kite.

A good time was had by all.  :)
