The way the DJI frames fit to the arms doesn't really make for adding dampers between them.  Not that it couldn't be done, but they have a really nice fit and the screws have shoulders that mate with the circuit board/frame pieces perfectly.  It might be better to consider adding your own "Clean" platform insulated with dampers.

I agree with Tiger to an extent but I think that strategy of learning to walk first is more applicable to helicopters than multirotors.  We are all helicopter pilots and we've been down that road.  Multirotors are just too easy to fly, especially if you fly helicopters.  Want positive proof?  Watch my girlfriend fly her mQX.
My advice is save the money on the "learner" and apply it right in the beginning and get a good frame, I would even say the best frame you can afford.  Especially if you're going to get a Naza because you will probably never crash anyway...it is that easy.

I've seen you fly your helicopters in your videos and I can tell you you are more than qualified.  Jump in head first and you'll probably save money by not buying a dumbed down learner only to buy another better one when you could have used the cash for a great one.

In addition, even if you do crash, which I doubt, I've seen you take the millions of shards of helicopter and put it back together so a broken multirotor will be stupid easy for you.

I want to tell you once you flown one of these you might never fly your helicopters again.  At the very least I bet they're going to be collecting some dust on your shelf.

I was thinking more in the lines of stacking another plate isolated by dampers, either above or below. Below would require elevated landing skids.

What are you guys using for a gps mount for your multirotors?

I now have all the ingredients for a quad, either here or on the way.

What I ended up with is the Flame wheel 450 kit, the NAZA-M V2 controller, as mentioned earlier and will use a Futaba R6202SBW (single wire)RX.
I'll not do a build thread but post progress photos here. I'll also likely need some questions answered along the way.  :)

I appreciate all the input from you guys. Thanks  ;)

John, you are already right about not flying the heli's as much. Due mostly to having to drive out to the rc field or a farmer friend's place to fly. The 600 I will keep but I think the other two will go.
I generally couldn't agree more. However it was only slightly more to buy the flame wheel kit than it was to purchase all the individual necessary NAZA parts to build the TBS Discovery so I'll really be out very little when/if I make the switch. We'll see where this leads.

Edit: As I understand it, the GPS mount comes in the kit...

Congratulations Bill!  Like Tiger and you already mentioned you can swap the electronics and motors to another frame, and if you do decide to go with a Discovery you can even reuse the arms.

    Looking forward to your build.

BTW, yes.  The mast comes with the GPS unit.

The electronics are here and the quad should be here early next week so I'll get some photos up soon after.

If he's like the rest of us, when it's time to do the swap, he'll decide he really needs two quads.  :)    (then it's is three and then....)

Isn't that the way it goes.
For me it started with planes, then heli's.  ::)

All the goodies are in one place now.  ;D
After I get the frame started and get some measurements made, I may get a set of 500 size heli landing gear to get this little bird off the ground a bit more.

Okay, spill it guys. What do I need to know. ???

    John,
I'm doing volunteer work this week, like a real job, so I'll just have the evenings to work on it. Getting the NAZA setup will likely take me the longest.

GPBILL - Funny you should mention 500 landing gear.  I just saw the landing gear on Tysons tricopter and quad yesterday and fell in love.  They are from the Eflite 550 Pro.  They make them in black and white.  I just ordered two sets of black from A-Main tonight so now those are out of stock now.  These are a perfect fit for your frame.  They are super beefy, look really nice, and are very inexpensive.  I don't think you could find anything much better.  Here is a link to the white ones (still in stock) at A-Main:

    http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_375_1484_3027/products_id/247591/n/Blade-Landing-Gear-Set-2

I'm sure you'd be really pleased with these.  Mine should show up before the weekend.  I'll try to get them on the 450 frame and shoot a picture for you.

Just a little north of you in Corvallis.

I found some black ones below, even got them for a little less than the white.

That's interesting.  Wonder why the black was cheaper.  Maybe they just have a lot of them and they don't move as well.  I picked black for better UV resistance.

Seems like Eflight chose black for flybarless helis and white for flybarred ones, they are all the same size.

...and they work great for flying in wheelbarrel mode.  ;)

This isn't going to take as long to build as one of the helis.
