I saw this lamp and thought others might also like to see it.  It uses LEDs and boasts a lamp life of 35 years.  The designer, Jake Dyson has also designed a couple other interesting lamps, such as his Motorlight concept.  You can see them at his website linked below,

Jake Dyson is the son of James Dyson, famous for his vacuum cleaner systems.

I really LIKE the design, the adjustability of the lamp looks pretty slick ....

LOL, I use a 50-Led Spot reflected off the ceiling to create a room wide glow. Then I have my lighting work horses, my two 160-LED Floods (w/ warming and cooling filters, and dimmers) to do a flood-light type of glow for my photo work ... Actually I'd BET most of you have seen my 160's in action as most of the heli's (and parts) I've photoed past have been lit up with them

Teh 160-Led Floods which I've modified to run off both AC and DC (LiPo's), see pic # 3

[/list]Yup LED's [IMG] but a Desk Lamp like the Dyson would certainly be a nice addition. Might also be good for some MACRO work too ;)

    Cool linkage for sure

I used to have a Tizio lamp but the CSYS is even more spendy.

Where did you get your LED photography lamps?

I also had a lamp that looked like the Tizio but the one I had used a Halogen Bulb. Good lamp but expensive, but those type of designs usually are. ... and HOT as Fire to as I burned myself a number of time for NOT being careful

Re: "Where did you get your LED photography lamps?" I'm NOT Telling, NO really I'm not {LOL} I actually forget where but regardless I still wouldn't recommend the company (retailer) as they sold out of China but I HAD a FEW issue with their business practices. Their BS user reviews, I found they were editing out ALL the negative comments toward the products they sold ... Do'h I can't remember the prices either, think they came in around $50usd each

I did a quick Google and found the Floods, the 160LED's model # Cn-360 ...
... That link is only an example as I haven't done any business with any of them so again it's NOT a recommendation, just more info ;)

My Cn-360's are pretty simple in make and design making them very easy to modify as I have done ... That is what I liked about them. Out of the BOX they we're powered by 6 x 1.2v Double AA's w/ NO option for AC, NO input for teh Wall Wart ... As I wasn't in the mood to buy another SET of re-chargeable's I decided to increase my options as to how the lamp was going to be powered. I wanted it powered by something I already had on hand, which we're my 6v DC Wall Wart and a 2S LiPo I had on hand

... My HX-PAR38 - 50 LED Spot light was bought from A-1 Electronic Parts here in Canada. Generally speaking it's a good 'bulb' but NOT as powerful (bright) has their 'Incandescent' counter part but the LED Spot Lights have a better 'Colour Temp, Daylight' for when used in photo lighting

EDIT: I should have pointed this out yesterday ... When I use the 2S LiPo and the Baja 6v 5Cell NiMH (although less so w/ the Baja) options and due to their higher voltage output the FLOOD's shine quite a bit brighter! However at those voltages were pushing the specs or the LED's outer limit w/ respect to the total voltage it can handle. The 6VDc Wall Wart being 'regulated' is the more stable option as it's actual output is a regulated 6.2VDc, FYI:

My Tizio was a halogen lamp.  I think you could actually get a sunburn off that lamp.  Seriously.

I thought your Tizio used LED's ... well that's what you get for glossing over the specs ...
    ... haha, true enough Halogens certainly DO run HOT, yes I too would describe it as you do {LOL}

These days for 'photo work' which I tend to base my lighting needs in an effort to get Duel-Use the Halogens Colour Temp is just over what an 'incandescent' bulb would produce, not good!

Again for photography teh LED's wins producing closer to a 'daylight' colour temp, more blue! However for my Day-to-Day living I prefer a much warmer glow, a glow that produces more reds and yellows of our incandescent's. LOL, in this AGE of more efficient lighting it would seem I'm caught between a "rock and a hard place" ba'h

I like Dyson's design, but really.... a $900 lamp?? It's a brilliant design and he sounds very intelligent...... 900.... That's the nicest 1/8th scale race rig I could build, oooooor I can buy a desk lamp.

A proper engineer could manufacture a very similar lamp with the same great features for a hell of a lot cheaper. I guess he really wants to get paid for all those patents.
