    Hey Guys,
I am a bit newer to the RC scene.  I have a Losi MRC, an Axial SCX-10, and a Tamiya CC-01.  I love the scale crawler action and was very into it for about a year.  Some things happened with work and my life in general so the rcs found a spot on my shelf and that's where they have been for the past months.

Anyways I wanted to get them all running again and start having fun and in the process I got bit by the offroad racing scene!  Being very new to go-fast rcs, I ended up with a 2wd Traxxas Slash brushed.  It has been great so far, especially with the type of driving I do for the most part which is jumping and bashing.  Well a couple of my friends decided to get into it also and ended up purchasing the VXL brushless ones.  You can see why I might want to upgrade to a brushless system now!  ;) Desire for catching bigger air and also being at the track last Saturday left me wanting some more power.

I'm not quite sure what to purchase.  I like the Traxxas Velineon system, but wouldn't be opposed to something else, such as a Novak or something.  Keep in mind I don't know a whole lot about different brand reps.  I willing to drop a semi decent amount of cash on the new system, but don't want to spend too much.  Any advice would be great.  Thanks in advanced!

Are you in Grants Pass?  If so, I have a Novak Havoc Pro with their new X-Drive system ESC and Ballistic 550 4.5T motor you could check out.  I have it mounted in my OFNA Hyper 10SC truck that you can see in this thread:

The VXL setup in the Slash is widely recognized as one of the best systems out there. UltimateRC did a comparison of several brushless motor setups, and for sheer performance, the Velineon (VXL) setup took top place. RC Addiction in Central point (I've heard) will do a trade-up from your stock Traxxas motor/ESC to the VXL system for $130. That, in my opinion, is the best deal!
However, in the same URC comparison, the Tacon motor from Hobbypartz.com took second place at only 16 watts less total output!!!! And that motor only costs $24  Then you get a decent 80amp ESC and you're flying high!
Look at the specs and watch the video in the following link...

    Good luck!!!

Stick with the Velineon System for bashing and don't look back.  Stay away from Novak for anything off-road unless you have deep pockets as they are finicky and there output is not equal in most cases to many other manufactures.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I have always kind of been leaning towards the Velineon, so this just goes to confirm it.  I think this is the route I will take.

BTW sinistercad, your caddy is sick!!!!  We were the ones in the white Frontier off to the side.

Thanks, I remember you guys, were do you go crawling around here?  I was thinking about buying a comp body for my 1.9 and playing some more with it.  Haven't been crawling in almost 3 years!

Fish Hatchery Park (North side) has amazing rocks just upriver from the parking lot! They've been a little slippery lately with the cold, foggy weather - but still a blast!

Yeah, Fish Hatchery Park is good.  Baker park also has some cool stuff if you can avoid the bums.  White Rock across from Schroeder Park makes some killer scale runs.  I have seen lots of footage from John's Peak also.  There are tons of spots along the Illy too.
