Hey all. I know absolutely NOTHING about RC stuff. My 7 year old boy has been saving birthday, Christmas and allowance money for a couple years wanting to get an RC truck. Which one do I want to let him get. I am thinking rock crawler would be easy for him to control, used would be fine. It must be tough, because he is a boy.... He has saved up a couple $100, and he knows what crap is, as he has a pile of Chinese junkers bought for him by family members over the last couple years.

    Any advice would be helpful.

    Thanks,

Well, first - welcome to the forum! $200 will get you into a good, hobby-quality RC. Crawlers are a lot of fun, are slow enough to control and not cause injury or damage! A few of us on here have the Redcat Rockslide RS10, and I LOVE mine! They retail around $160 ready to run.
A 2WD Traxxas Slash is a great choice for speed and durability.
There are several cars for sale on this forum, as well as Craig's List if you want to look at used.
Keep in mind this is just one person's opinion, and of course, there are many others ;)
    Good luck!

If you have $200 to spend find a used crawler by the likes of Axial, Losi etc. etc or buy a new Losi Mini crawler which are a blast out of the box for the money.

    Axial Wraith rtr

Some of the best fun you can have on 4 wheels. They crawl okay, go fast and jump stuff. They will take a serious beating and come back for more all day long. I have shelved most all my vehicls and just drive my wraith now when I want to have fun. There is a for sale add on here with 2 for sale in it right now.

After considering the advice(thanks) and a bunch of models, It looks like either a Redcat Rockslide, or a Axial Wraith would do the trick. I'd like to find either one used, and show him some pictures so he can make a decision. I am trying to teach him some responsibility in spending, but he is 7 so I need to narrow the field to 2 or three choices.
If someone that knows sees a good deal either of those, feel free to let me know. Short of a new unit, I would not know a good deal on a used one if it ran me over....

Well the rockslide is decent for a very entry level rig and cost about half what a wraith would, but there is not really upgrade parts available for them and parts if they break are hard to come by other than ordering them.  The wraith has the support of almost any shop and can be made into an astounding rig if he wants, but again the cost would be about double what a rockslide would be.  Coincidentally though Goldenchild here has a rockslide used for sale that would have everything needed to get going and when I saw it in person last weekend it was in great shape.

Thanks all!. Ended up getting a gently used rockslide.  Goldenchild, you facilitated one happy kid. I am pretty sure I could fill his stocking with coal, and he would only see crawling obstacles....
