I need some advice on tires. I upgraded (or so I thought) from the stock Traxxas Alias nubbies with Pro Line Dirt Hawgs. I like the stiffer sidewall, but traction on dirt plain sucks. They seem to perform better on asphalt. At B street today, they wouldn't hook up for squat. Even packed topsoil they struggle. Still an upgrade, but a totally different tire than what I was expecting. Suggestions? It's a rustler vxl, mostly a basher. Is there a good all around dirt tire out there? Or am I going to have to splurge and have a different tire for each occasion!?
A couple of us are using ProLine "Trenchers". I am using the super soft "M3" compound and Done is using them in "M2" compound. If you are planning to run on asphalt as well as dirt I would recommend you stay away from the M3 compound as they will wear very quickly. The other tire that is really good are the ProLine "Calibers". They like a lot of different surfaces and work really well at B Street.
Hello big Joe, I ran a rusty vxl for years, went thru a lot of tires, in my opinion throw on some 2.8" badlands(front ones on all 4 corners). And see the difference, talons are ok, wear fast. Treanchers are awesome! But this is my first set on a 2wd slash, if you do fronts all the way around, you can rotate tires for longer wear.
BigJoe- lemme know when your gonna hit up B st jumps again, I have a set of badlands we can put on your rusty for you to try. Kyle.
Sounds good. Could be a spur of the moment thing with us. You know, take the kids for a drive to get them to take a freakin nap!
I second the Calibers. I also have a set of Proline Gladiators for the really loose stuff. They have tons of traction and throw a big roost.
I prefer the Caliber's myself but the badlands are good as long as your not on a hard packed surface.
