Good afternoon everyone ...
... One BIG annoyance (haha, "ONE" that's a laugh) I have w/ WinXP is when my desktop arrangement and ICONS reset (usually happens after changing the 'Screen Resolution') to the LEFT of the screen so basically I would loose my nicely arranged DESK. Now in a day long past I would have NO choice but to rearrange my ICONS back into my preferred layout, by hand, which I hated doing. Might have at some point made ONE convert to the 'Penguin' or EAT an 'Apple'! LMAO

Does this also ANNOY you?
... Most simply accept ALL their ICONS are going to be STUCK left !?!
... What's the point of a having nicely arranged DESK only to have 'Windows' TRASH it !?!
... Actually one way to avoid the issue is never change the 'Screen Resolution' which can work but the risk is forgetting or a rogue program resetting the screen

If the answer is 'YES' then I have a little program for you
... A 'Shell Extension' that is accessed with the 'Right-Click' {LMAO} pun NOT intended

Lets get down to the sharing, ya
... The tiny little utility been a staple of ALL my setups for near over TEN year, probably more
... This morning I needed to reinstall the little GEM when it came to mind, it hits on me that I should share!

Desktop ICON Save and Restore
... The little utility with BIG annoyance busting appeal

The utility saves the ICON positions w/ the 'Right-Click' {LMAO} now the PUN is intentional

Utility restores the 'desktop' after the UI does this silliness ...

The program is especially or best used during or after the days work, after ALLOT of ICON moving and for putting the 'desk' back into the preferred layout.
This can be and often is where and when I use the utility the most often

Desktop Save and Restore - FREEWARE

"This tiny application operates as a Shell extension. It records the layout and positions of icons and programs on the Windows Desktop, and permits restoration of the layout. After severe frustration of having my layout trashed every time I switched screen resolutions. Sometimes other programs will switch screen size and trash your layout as well. This program is an answer to this problem"

I don't know but at the time it MADE for a DARN good HTML Server!
... LMAO, when that PIC was taken it was actually running WinXP ... The Linux Server came much later. FYI: was at the time testing it's 'overclocking' potential, hence ALL the 'cooling'

While reminiscing over this old PIC ... it has me tinking about re-starting my Server ...
... Thinking a BLOG (Wordpress of course) with an Rc Helicopter and Photography theme !?! BUT this time more for personal use, jus to keep the traffic low, friends and family only ...

Get a copy (free) of Ubuntu server and set it up with all the LAMP components then you will be able to run any of the good open source CMS systems like Wordpress or Joomla.

If that computer has a CDROM drive that can be set to the boot device in your BIOS you can get a copy of Ubuntu, burn it to a CD and boot it.  This way you can test drive the OS without it making any changes to whatever operating system is on your hard drive.  That will get you a chance to play around with Ubuntu yourself and see what it's like.

This. My first play-test with Ubuntu about 5 years ago was on a LiveCD and after an hour of messing with everything running straight off the CD I clicked the "Install" button. Never looked back.

Also, you can install Ubuntu from within Windows using their Windows Installer program. It creates a separate HDD partition, installs Ubuntu and sets everything up for dual-boot! Bonus: If you decide you hate Ubuntu you can use the Windows Add/Remove programs to uninstall the whole operating system!

That's a nice looking little server w00d.  What is being displayed on the front panel LCD?  Are those temperatures?  How were the internal temperatures?  It's a pretty small case so I was wondering if it got hot in there.

Yup that display is displaying temps, most important is the first number (left) which is displaying the Core Temp! It gets it readings from the sensor incorporated into most AMD CPU's. When that number reaches 50ºC I start to get nervous, over 60ºC and I shut her down ... If I remember right I set her to shut down automatically at 55ºC Core Temp

The second from left gets it's reading from a sensor inside the case, it's measuring the temperature inside the case.

I also have the option to measure Mother Board temps which is basically measuring the North Bridge (NB) temperature as it's sensor is in and around there somewhere. But this reading wasn't so important so I'm not using that option. Anyhowz, odds were if you had an HIGH CPU temp then you also HAD a HIGH NB temp.

The above should answer this question "It's a pretty small case so I was wondering if it got hot in there" The second sensor or second reading says my Case Temp is 26º +/- a few degrees.

Thus it's NOT so much the SIZE of the CASE that determine how HOT the Case Temp will be as it's the actual 'Air-Flow through the Case' that does the cooling! Size has no relevance, it's about how much Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) of AIR we can get through the box ... This said small cases have limited room for FANS or the mounting of FANS thus it could limit the CFM through the system. This is the reason why small cases CAN be problematic with respects to their ability to cool!

As the photo shows and the temp readings show, there's more than enough FAN power inside that box! Discounting the High Speed and high CFM 80mm CPU FAN even the PSU has two 80mm LED Fans along side that high speed 120mm sucking the ALL the BAD air OUT ...

... Yes it is a small BOX but it was sold as a 'Gaming BOX' and was designed to COOL great and CARRY easily ... Still it was up to me to make sure there was enough CFM to cool this system and I thinks the temps prove I did my homework ...
