One question that came into my mind when I read it was if you could remote mount the sensor with a cable.  I couldn't think of a reason why not, and anyway the video cleared that up because they show it being used exactly like that with an extension cord.

So what is the longest extension cord you think you could use with this thing?

The $19 pledges are already sold out but the $25 is still available and the $39 pledge is kind of cool because it's aluminum.

John, I was thinking the cool thing about the sensor is because I fly my phone sometimes.  When I do fly my phone my main interest is the GPS KML paths that I can get which you may have seen.  When I saw this sensor I thought it might be cool to also collect some temperature data.  I don't know if the app that runs on the phone does logging, or if it can run in the background if the GPS logging app is running.
The thing you posted is cool, but I presume it doesn't do logging only live display of the temperature.

Even so, I have several Android phones lying around that are just collecting dust so sticking one on the wall with the Kickstarter sensor thingy on an extension outside would be cool, especially if it can do logging.  It might even be cheaper long term than replacing those expensive watch batteries all the time.

It would be nice if the app could push the data out, so I could see what the temp was at my friends exact location.

I agree totally and in fact I think this should be or will be possible.  Worst case you need to write a little code.

Looking about halfway down the page you can read this:

What might be awesome is if this was linked to one, or all, of your Google+ circles, user selectable of course.  This would be a sweet useful social feature.

John - I didn't know what you were thinking of doing and it didn't come to mind that you fly your phone sometimes.  Surely an app like that could run in the background and it would be fun to do it.  I've thought a lot of times about building a data logger specifically tailored to our hobby.  I'm sure there are all kinds of guy already making something like that already, but I really think it would be fun to roll your own.  Talking about Android apps, I recently downloaded a copy of BASIC for Android.  I was really surprised to see that it could read the internal sensors easily and was also able to do Bluetooth for output.  Basic has its limitations, but I've sure written a lot of handy little programs with it over the years.  now that's on my list for my tablet.  If only there was more time to play with stuff!

John - If you look back at some of my videos you can find links to the Google Map paths. From there you can download the KML files for use on Google Earth. Pretty cool stuff.

I didn't know there was a Basic for Android, that sounds pretty cool...as long as you don't need any Microsoft stuff to use it. ;)
Did you get that Basic in the Google Play store?

Aside from temperature, what kind of data were you interested in logging? Rolling your own would be cool because you can get exactly what you want. However I downloaded the free app called "My Tracks" which is made by Google and it gives me what I was interested in collecting. You might want to have a look for yourself. Here is a link:
