Very nice!  Best in-class radio on the market.  I bet you are programming it already.

No, not yet :-[ Need to either cleanup my hobby room in the house, or install the woodstove in the garage and clean off those workbenches first. MUCH too much of a mess!

Ahmm... there are some Futaba guys around here, at least one anyway.  :)

If it is any thing like my Futaba 8fg you are going to be really happy with the new radio GC, even if it does have Spektrum on it.  ;)
I finally, just last month finished setting up the last of my planes with mine, it will do control surface mixes for about any plane you could fly.

I had a Futaba 7C and LOVED it! But I've been looking at some BNF planes and helis, and of course they're all Spektrum DSM2 :-\ So I got my DX6i, but it is limited on the mixes/programming that I want to use for some of my planes. So, I went deep for the upgrade and bought myself the DX8! I do still have my Futaba T10CAP synthesized radio. I am upgrading that with a FrSky LRS system soon for my FPV projects :)

Let us know how the FrSky upgrade goes. I considered doing that with my 7c but decided to leave it FM for flexibility on future projects. The only thing it gets to fly now is the Telemaster and the simulator.
I've ordered a FrSky 7ch 2.4 GHz FASST compatible receiver to use in the scale heli I am building. From what I have read, there supposed to be as good as the name brand goods.

I've used those with my 7C as well, and also the OrangeRX. They both worked flawlessly and had more than adequate range. I liked the OrangeRx better. But they were each still overpriced for me. Another reason to go with Spektrum was I can get OrangeRx DSM2 receivers for $5.00 each! ;D

The only issue I have 2.5g in general is the fact were locked in to brand specific Rx's. There are some nice Futaba Receivers I wouldn't mind buying but the fact it would COST me a small fortune to swap out all my Rx's pretty much has me locked into Spectrum now. And lets not get into a Futaba/Sektrum p.ssing contest as they both a good/bad qualities ... Meh as I said I wish I had a choice but that choice was finalized when I got my DX6i

GC Re: your DX8, I maybe jealous but congrats

I use both and love both equally. Everyone has likes/favorites/opinions - me, I just go for what works that I can afford at the moment ;)

Speaking of Futaba only a few know this (and that's not to say anyone here don't) but they have a professional side to their bizz. They do allot of pro-gear for teh UAV Community, Government Backed, University and Science of UAV/Radio Control in general which makes the STUFF they make for us LOOK, well best I NOT say it ...

This is JUST one of my favorites (I wish was in my stocking this morning but ain't) which is pretty high end for the retail market but it's mind boggling how far we can go with respect to Rc electronics these days ...

Bill and Yoda I know also know of some really high-end equipment from other companies as we have talked about this before ....

I was rather disappointed when the Hitec systems came out with their telemetry features and it seemed odd that Futaba didn't have something like that for us RC folks. I guess I just hadn't looked closely enough.  I just spotted this a few days ago.

Only trouble with this one is, ya would almost have to sell the family car to afford the TX and all the goodies you could use with it.
My 8fg is programmable, perhaps they will come up with a download (free of course) that would make it telemetry friendly.  ;D
The one you have the picture of, I'm guessing you would need to sell the car and the house?  ???

Gotta LUV those BIG screens ...
It's what I want on even on a cheap "Tx" ... Well at least colour would be welcome on the LOW end stuff. As for "telemetry" I have mixed feelings there ...

I know. Me too. I have little time to be looking down at the screen when I am flying, especially the heli's. When I'm flying them I have to land on a regular basis after I have been in the flight for a few minutes to check the timer.  ::)

I believe some systems are coming up with verbal alerts so you don't have to be checking the screen, I think I would prefer something like that.

Well, I've got four models programmed so far. This radio has an AMAZING feature set when it comes to programming/mixes/settings options! So far my favorite is the Throttle-Position-Activated Timer :) I can set the timer function to start its count-down from any throttle position - no more forgetting to flip the switch! The "elevon" programming was very simple and straight forward. Time to get my new Paper Airplane setup and ready ;) Next to tackle is the V-Tail mixing for my Reaper! Guess I should probably install the servos and linkages to the control surfaces first ::) Stay tuned...

Yeah +1 for not enough time
... or Maybe, from the Too Unrealistic Dept of Too FAR Out Wishlists that certainly would make ya look like GEEK out in the real world {LOL} --->
I was thinking (goggles or a upgraded Propeller Hat maybe) some form of Heads Up Display (HUD) for the telemetry. Something LIKE the military use !?!

I should have done a better job of expressing myself.
It comes down to two features I guess for me with air radios and my preference of Spektrum over Futaba: I like the Spektrum "Design" or look better which is simply a matter of taste.  The other matter is what Spektrum calls "Model Match".  I should also mention that I own and absolutely love my Futaba 4PK surface transmitter.  But what bothers me is that no matter which model is selected any of the vehicles will respond to the transmitter.  The only difference I can see is when my models have different receivers on them, what Futaba calls "Fasst-C1" and "Fasst-C2" types.  The Spektrum vehicle will not respond until you have selected it's particular model which I find great because of all the associated trims and setting one has for a particular model.

    @Mike -
I also like the throttle timer start feature and it is something I miss on my DX7SE.  I always forget to start the timer separately and having it start automatically would be very useful.
I also had a chance to hold a DX8 in my hands at Al's and I like the stick gimbals better.  I believe that the DX8 has bearings on all points.  The telemetry is something I would like to have, but I can't take my eyes off my helicopter when I fly so a logger for the temperature wold be cool, or hot!  The other data that interests me is available from the Castle Creations ESC's I use.

Yup, vague "one liners" will get ya every time ... on the plus side it does draw out the best in us when challenged [IMG]

I am LOVING this radio! Cannot WAIT to get out in the field and put it through its paces ;D Programming is all straight forward so far and it has ALMOST as many options as my Futaba T10CAP which I paid over $200 MORE for three years ago! Don't think even the newer Futaba 12 & 14-channel radios have more than my T10, so I don't feel bad at all :) 30-model memory SHOULD be enough for awhile!
