Fire season is here now, for anyone interested I have a live radio scanner broadcast feed from my home in Grants Pass. It mostly covers fire, medical and forestry stuff. Here is the direct link to the actual feed: The page generated by this link is from the actual audio server, so if you get nothing then it means the server is down: http://swoscan.no-ip.info Here is an information page about the server which is generated from a different server other than the feed itself: http://www.bluefincnc.com/live The tech details are, a Radio Shack PRO-2006 scanner (The famous one from back in the day), amazing that it still works, I bought this scanner new at the mall Radio Shack in Medford in November of 1990 and turned it on when I got home, it has never been turned off, 24-7 operation for nearly 22 years straight. The speaker output feeds a old Windows XP PC soundcard running Winamp with the Shoutcast audio server plugin. The PC is connected to a Linksys router and using Charter cable internet. You can use both Android (Via XiiaLive Lite) and Iphone (Via the Winamp App) to listen to the feed.
Tried this around 4:30 today and got this message. Any ideas? "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while downloading the file"
Did you click on the "Listen" link from the black status page? If so, that will only work if you have Winamp installed and configiured as your default media player. For Windows Media player to work you need to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Windows Media Player copy and paste (exactly) the link below into the "Open URL Box": Open Windows Media Player, then choose File>Open URL or you can hit "Ctrl U" to get the box: Paste this address below (Don't click this, I don't know how to make it not be a link): http://swoscan.no-ip.info Then hit OK ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I opened Media Player and hit cntl-U to get the box. Then I pasted in (http://swoscan.no-ip.info/) and got the error message again. I wonder if it has something to do with Windows 7? ...Tiger
That is strange, I use it at home on Vista, at work on 64 bit Windows 7 and even on Windows 98 machines. Right now there are 3 users on it and at one time there was 5 today after I posted the link. I am using Media player V11.0 at home. Do you have something with Android on it? Try: XiiaLive Lite (free version) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.DroidLiveLite&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbmRyb2lkLkRyb2lkTGl2ZUxpdGUiXQ.. And search for Oregon, it should show up in the results
I am using a Linux computer and Google Chrome browser. When I click the "Listen" link at http://swoscan.no-ip.info I get a "listen.pls" file downloaded. Opening that file with Audacious plays the stream. Very cool! Thank you!
As an FYI for anyone who might see this in the next few hours, the scanner is active now with the first local, serious fire of the year. It is near Camas Valley by Roseburg, the airtanker out of Medford (62) just headed up to it.
Just gave it a try on a WinXP laptop and it played fine following your steps in Reply #2 above! Thanks!!
Cool, if you look Northwest of GP you can see the smoke. I think they have two UH1 helos up there now.
