RC Swap Meet - Roseburg - February 11, 2012

    We will have an RC swap meet here in Roseburg.
    at our community clubhouse.
    It's indoor so rain or shine

    [size=small]Here are some ideas that may or may not be incorporated in the next event.

    • [size=small]Free track pass for the day - When attendees register at the meet, they will get a pass to use the Over-the-Hill track for the day (depending on the track conditions, maybe too wet). Sorry nitro guys, this is electric only.[/size]
    • [size=small]Live web cam - using the +Google hangout, skype or? to broadcast the drawings and the event in general.[/size]
    • [size=small]Door Prize Drawings - every attendee who makes a cash purchase will get a ticket for the drawings (drawing every hour). One prize ($? value) to be donated from each seller (cost of table reservation).[/size]
    • [size=small]Lunch for the sellers - We'll organize a "dutch treat" subway sandwich run.[/size]

    That's a good question.
    Most swap meets charge something like $10 per table.
    So... I'm thinking something (RC part or accessory) in the $7-$10 range.
    Nothing too valuable, but with enough value that you'd hang around for the hourly drawing. If each table (12) donated one item, we could give away 2-3 prizes each hour. Of course you'd have to be present to win.
    This also means that with each sale, we'd have to issue a ticket for the drawing.

    Time for a reality check.
    1. the clubhouse has been reserved for February 11, 2012 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
    2. I have verbal commitments for 2 table reservations. 10 tables remaining.
    3. The list of 4 ideas listed in the first post maybe a little ambitious for me.


    We will open the Over-the Hill Raceway (providing it isn't raining) to attendees who sign up at the swap meet.
    We will allow only electric powered ground based vehicles to run on the track.
    We will organize a Subway sandwich run (dutch treat) for the sellers.
    We will have several gallons of FREE coffee.


    The idea of door prize raffles... maybe, maybe not. (give me your input please)
    The idea of a webcast or webcam at the meet... meh,??? (i'm looking for someone who would like to play the roving reporter)


    BTW, Nathan and his step-dad Sebastian came over this afternoon and we ran our trucks just to test the track conditions.
    I believe that as long as it doesn't rain on the 10th and 11th. well have dry enough surface to run.
    We had a light rain here last night so the track was damp (no mud) bet the grass was wet which caused some cleanup issues.

    Count me in for a table Smitty!
    I can make the run to Subway for the sandwiches.
    Not sure how much stuff I'll be bringing to sell as I am frantically getting ready for our (Rogue Valley Flyers) annual swap and shop in March. I would definitely like to see the Umpqua Modelers there again - maybe you could get in touch with them and talk them into having a table?
    As for the door prizes, I think its a great idea and will help with that however I can if you decide to keep it part of the program ;)
    And the webcast, talk with John and see if he is still onboard for, and has the time for setting that up and running it.
    And last but not least, YES - I am bringing the doughnuts 8)

    Sorry, Over-the Hill Raceway is not available for public use. :'(
    That said however, because I'm sponsoring the swap meet on the 11th. everyone who attends will do so as my personal guests in the community.
    As such, I'm offering the use of the track for that day only to guests who sign up at the swap meet. :D

    I know that sounds very controlling. Well it is!
    We who live here and have created this track, are able to play here because the HOA and the property owner allow it. Opening the track to the general public would cause us to lose that privilege.

    Thanks GPS,
    While talking with the guys at UVM, I got the impression that they thought this event was for surface vehicles.
    I cleared that up, so we are likely to see more aircraft this time.


    I did discover one minor schedule conflict. It appears a local line control group is having a "fun fly" from 10 am - 2 pm.
    out at the ball diamonds on Diamond Lake Blvd.


    Just one more reason to be in Roseburg on Saturday, Feb 11th.
