A little expensive by the time you get it home, but it does look REALLY nice! http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-7-LED-LCD-Touch-Screen-Outdoor-HDMI-Monitor-/110729431981?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item19c7fd0bad Here it is again a little cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-SAMSUNG-7-LED-LCD-Touch-Screen-Monitor-Kit-Outdoor-/110659973152?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item19c3d93020 ...Tiger
Do you think these will not wash out in sunlight? They don't seem THAT expensive. The second link appears to be a kit and not a fully integrated product in a housing.
IMO, I think teh price is actually pretty good ... ... They want near $500 to $1000 for PRO level and around $300 - $500 for Mid-level screens in this size range Given it's price I shouldn't complain ... ... but the only complaint I would put forth would be the 'Native Resolution' being 800 x 480, less than the resolution of [acronym=High-Definition Multimedia Interface]HDMI[/acronym] which is 1920 x 1080. It's obvious they are using 'lesser' screens to get the good price. No it's NOT a PRO level screen but that's not to imply I couldn't find this screen useful as a Arial View Finder and/or for, [acronym=First Person View]FPV[/acronym] ... Being 'mobility challenged' ... ... if I had a team (LOL, or a helper) of people to help with the heavy lifting I would use a 19" wide screen PC monitor for the same money. I'm sure this might be seem like 'overkill' (and certainly would attract a CROWD of onlookers) but I'd be sure the native res matched the HD input at a reasonable price Quote: "Supports HDMI HD input! 800*480 native resolution, up to 1080p(1920* 1080)! integrated speaker" With my own 5" Screen I've found for photographic applications the screens Native Resolution needs to match the [acronym=High-Definition Multimedia Interface]HDMI[/acronym] inputs, it really does ... My Wifi 5" screen w/ it's simple [acronym=Video Graphics Array]VGA[/acronym] resolution and which by the way also claims it's [acronym=High-Definition Multimedia Interface]HDMI[/acronym] obviously does not match the native resolution thus looks really bad. But I'd guess that's NOT the reason why this screen is posted here as it's best suited for FPV? ... And as the Avatar suggests maybe the opinion of the opinionated, which is about as humble has it gets today Meh, it's the first post of the day [size=1.2em][shadow=grey,left]w00d[/shadow][/size] [hr] EDIT: ... or am I reading the specifications in the 'quote' wrong ?? If wrong then this IS a GREAT Monitor for the price !! EDIT: Apparently after re reading the Native Res indeed is, 800 x 480 w/ a Contrast ratio: 400:1 and the support of 24bit RGB ... This screens Contrast Ratio would also be why the claim amongst other (lesser) specifications why it can be said "Outdoor Viewable". Would also be pleased to add that Samsung being one of the few actual makers of LED and LCD screens it not lacking in credibility, they are regarded by the PC world as one of the best manufactures. In fact ALL my PC monitors are made by Samsung and allot of the options offered w/ those, if not all of them (not withstanding it's size) are the same options as those offered w/ this screen ... But as said to claim it's 'HDMI" when clearly it's does input HDMI but the output is NOT, there I would give pause if only to separate technical information from marketing hype! ... Yup for the most part it's a GOOD monitor!! [hr]
GPS - There isn't anything that doesn't wash out in sunlight, but this will probably do a lot better than most monitors. I'm really thinking of ordering one. Oh... and that second listing does look like it's just the panel and board without the packaging so I wouldn't go for that one. I did see one review on these and it talked about reflections off the glossy screen in sunlight. That's pretty normal actually. You're still going to need a hood of some sort like PP uses. I just figure anything that even helps the problem is a step in the right direction. ...Tiger
We'll still need those! Don't say anything really bad, because I ordered it today. PP - The directional couplers came today and they look really good. Looks like it would be pretty easy to build a detector inside of them and turn them into an Autotester much like the Wiltron sells for testing SWR. ...Tiger
Well, cool, with the monitor and coupler we can have you with a tuned antenna, bright screen wrapped in a pizza box, and then no more reason to not FPV your NAZA anymore ;D
Received this monitor today. Just posted a little bit about it in the "FPV Monitor" thread. Forgot I started this one for it. ...Tiger
