    John, If you are interested in doing some LIDAR stuff you might check out the XV-11 projects that were going on a while back. The Neato XV-11 robot vacuum has one of the lowest cost LIDAR devices around and a lot of people have been hacking them. Here are a few threads you might find interesting:

    We've had a Neato XV-11 for a few years and it is a really cool robot vacuum cleaner. As far as I know the first and only robot vacuum cleaner with LIDAR. The iRobot Roomba that everyone knows is just a toy compared to the XV-11. You can find out more here: http://www.neatorobotics.com/
