[RANT] Don't ya JUST HATE IT WHEN YOUR 1-Terabyte Hard Drive goes south with ALL it's info! [/RANT] .... and THAT'S NOT the BEST PART - Until I can get it replaced I don't have a BOX capable of watching your video's, so yeah No "Last Action HERO" for poor old w00d ... and NO amount of JAVA is gonna FIX that Word of Caution: It's always best to have two HD's instead of one LARGE one ... LOL "but that was my second as the first one also went to the crapper" Meh, bout time that BOX was replaced with something NEW or at least that's my excuse for buying a new one ... I think with any of these big storage technologies you need to get two of whatever size you need. Some time ago I posted about CrashPlan (http://southernoregonrc.com/index.php?topic=227.msg1371#msg1371) and I still use it daily (automatically) and think it's a terrific piece of software. It runs in the background and takes care of all my backup needs. I have it backing up to a external USB attached hard drive, but it can also write to another computer on your LAN or a friends across the Internet and also their cloud service if you want to pay for that.
haha - I did sign up w/ CrashPlan and I do have a backup, well a partial BackUp as the last time it was backed up was the middle of the summer. Yeah I know it shouldn't have been that long since backing up my data, but ya should "never say never" eh ... Anywayz between that and my online backups there's not that much that will be lost, just need a new HD to get "that" system back up
You just know it's going to be a great day when you can say the computer that was NOT working now IS Well I did spend the better part of my day fixing the "Bit-Rot" HeHe, giggle me this Batman my BIG Box is back in business ... ... don't have to put up with my PIA Laptop! <--- INSERT LINUX PLUG ---> Linux does not rot from use. It's never been a better time to try out a bootable CD ISO. This will allow you to boot from the CD and try it without any changes to yoour existing system and the hard drives. If you want one let me know and I'll mail one to you to try! // NOTE: Linux Rocks <--- END LINUX PLUG --->
Sorry but I used the term "Bit-Rot" rather" loosely as WIN wasn't the issue. The problem was a Bad-Sector(s) which is an hardware issue, a problem w/ the Hard-Drive itself, had nothing to do with the operating system being run on it. Didn't mean to say nor imply that Windows the the root or cause of the problem Re: Linux - All joking aside, NO were talking to the wrong guy! It's makes NO sense to run Linux only to have a "Virtual" WIN platform just so I can run my window applications anyway. Better to run GAMES and for that matter any 3D intensive application on the platform they were designed for. Maybe if I was going to make a "server" or an HTML Server or had to BUY Licences for 1000 or more Workstations then sure I may consider Linux but not if I'm only going to run native windows applications. Sure it can be done with the various Virtual Machine application available but without making too fine a point it's been my experience there's always some issues in one form or another. Anyhow not trying to be rude but forget it as it's not going to happen the work is done! Certainly not today, maybe some time in the future I maybe in the mood to play with Linux but not today ... Note it's not my first experience with LINUX and it's NOT the first time this argument has risen. It's been done to death and I find them frustrating at best, there's no point them as minds (Linux nor WIN minds) are never changed! Truth is a LIKE em both and could say I like em equally if that helps. Although in the end I've found it best to simply "agree to disagree", or best not even to have the argument. This also works for any Mac vs WIN, iPhone vs Android, Internet Explorer vs FireFox and/or Widget vs Gadget type "discussions" ... ... I'm sorry but you just have the wrong guy hehe, first JAVA first Post meh ... [shadow=Orange,left]w00d[/shadow]
