Cool video, thanks for sharing.  What are those semi-circular dials on the display in that machine?

They are just the machine status indicators like fuel, temp, RPM, ETC. but the whole pod they are mounted on is the overall machine computer for diagnostics and stuff. It is a CAT 320. I will get some more video in a week or so, we are changing to a heavy duty head (Slashbuster) instead of this flail mower which does not like big trees.

The control panel looks pretty high tech.  Are you cutting down trees for lumber or forest maintenance?
In the video it looks like that thing is mowing off branches and at one point it looked like a explosion.  You are in a cage is seems with only a wire grate, so you you catch splinters inside?

The screen is outside, the operator cab is fully enclosed with tempered glass and has heating + AC  + Music :) These are old roads that access timber, but they are overgrown with trees and brush so we are mowing them open for future timber sales. The disk grinder we are having put on will be much more powerful and able to handle larger trees.

My view changed a bit today as I was out on foot down the skyline corridor, but the weather was perfect out there!  8)

And the best part is that this is Radio Controlled! Just takes really big batteries! (and diesel).

Is that thing on a cable?  If so, what are the ends attached to?

Yeah, the end out in the woods connects to a tree about 30 feet up, the other end is hooked to a machine up at the top of the mountain that has a steel tower and guy lines. The carriage is controlled by VHF radio transmitters called "talkie tooters" (Bugs) that the guys have on their belts. Sometimes you can end up with 200+ feet of lift, but here the set up had things pretty low to the ground.

I was wondering if it connected to a tree on one or both ends.  Has anyone ever tried to lift too much and broke the tree that the cable was attached to?

The other name for logging is "Constantly breaking things", so yeah, that stuff is always getting dropped, beaten, yelled at, rained on......

Sometimes you forgot about the Burrito that you put on the exhaust manifold next to the turbo and it catches on fire, then burned up beans get all over the engine....

It's just being run off the Aux port, really should have a dedicated pump section all for itself, but that's another $50K  :(
