Hi everyone, thanks for the add, I am new to RC as of this year. I planned to build a multirotor (MR) and decided on Quad because of the maneuverability and versatility of payloads (GoPros, phone camera etc.) easily attached to the craft. I chose to forgo as many parts as possible to save on weight, but the basic build is from a variety of HAL parts. Between Turnigy's HAL hex and quad kit, and some home made carbon fiber pieces I was able to assemble something balanced and lite that has an average flight time of 20 minutes on a 6000MAH 3s battery fully charged to ~12.5v. I used a Naza Lite with GPS, Turnigy AllStar 45amp Esc, Turnigy KTN 1100KV motors, and 10x5.5 carbon fiber props. I home made all of my wiring harnesses, as well as the offshoot for the green lights on the from of the MR for orientation mid flight. I grabbed a simple $50 8ch radio from HobbyKing and programmed it at home: changed stick locations, traded out annoying beeper for an LED. If anyone has any questions on building a MR at home, please feel free to ask me any questions. Happy Holidays!!
Wow Matt! That's really pretty impressive! I see you're up in Eugene. Wish you were a little further south so you could come fly with us. We'll be watching to follow your progress with this. Nice work! ...Tiger
What do you mean you traded out stick positions? Did you make a mode 1 radio into a mode 2 or vice versa?
Made a European mode 1 into mode 2 I think; you could say I put the throttle on the left, because it was on the right The Euro model was cheaper when ordering parts from overseas from HobbyK. If anyone ever needs help doing this, I could post a vid, it is very simple to do on a Tx9.
Did not have to physically moved the sticks after opening up the radio, had to relocate a small chip for each, and move over the apparatus that adds resistance to the elevator (basically just a small spring) that makes the right stick return to center. After that, I just buttoned the controller back up and was done. I took out the beeper and replaced it with a small LED light as well; I hated that beeping noise lol.
