I welled my differentials the other day to make drifting easier, good lord did it make a difference. JB weld for the win!  8)

Has anyone else ever done something similar to there diff, but went at it differently?

the differentials are at the front, and back of the car. typically on a Nitro car. But im not sure about an Electric car. BUT of course it came with an "open differential" meaning. i can spin one tire, while the other tire is at a complete stop. so at some points only 1 tire will be getting power under a drift. pretty horrible. now to make a differential a locker. and or "welled" diff. dis-assemble your car, and get the diff's out.and open those bad boys up! on my diff's. i have a planetary gear system. 4 smaller gears rotating around the actual drive shaft. these planetary gears are really what makes the differentials not lock up. Now. what i did. was mix up some JB weld. and put a nice fat slob in the diff. closed it back up, and spun it about 30 times, to get the JB weld all over the gears. so once it set, and hardens. it will not allow the planetary gear system to move anymore, but instead, transfer full 100% torque too both tires equally 100% of the time.  ;)

A way to check if you have an open diff. Hold one of your tires, and spin the other side. if you can spin the tire, its an open diff.

OK.  This is a permanent modification.  What if you want to go back and do some racing?  Is there a temporary way to do this?

yeah the way i did it, is certainly permanent, but the strongest. but then again, my rc car is a strict drift car so im not too worried lol.  i really have not thought of a temporary way yet that is stable enough to hold the torque. on the t-maxx's i know they have a different diff set-up than my car.

I have a old associated tc electric that I converted.  I saw in the last Radio Control Car Action that Tamiya has a nice looking drift car.

Are you into drifting? i've noticed its harder to drift a Nitro rather than a electric.

I would say I am kind of into it.  It is fun, but I also like going fast.

I use silly putty in the center diff of my revo and it works great. It locks up the diff and but has enough give to save my tranny gears on throttled landings. It's also easy to remove if you decide to fill your diff with fluid.silly putty is also cheaper as apposed to buying a new diff, hope this helps ;)

I wonder if Highlandcrawler's super duty crawler axles would fit in your truck.  His axles are beefy and I doubt they would break.  You might PM him and ask.

His name is Erin, on here he is "Highlandcrawler".  Look at some of his posts in the crawler section.
