So if I got my info right the GoPro Hero 960 is now $150.00 and with the newest firmware you can plug in and get composite video out for FPV and record in 720@30 at the same time. This would be a really good deal if it all worked.

But I don't know if the cable can be plugged in while it is in it's little box to protect it.

The case for mine does not have any openings for a cable, but mine is a older model.

Wouldn't an opening for an "AV out" defeat the "Water Proofing" of the casing!?!
I would also have to think our "DIY Talents" would be able to give y'all that option !?!

Exactly.  I don't plan on running mine on a boat, or even a RC car/truck in the wet.  But keeping the dust and dirt out are important to me.

BTW: I tested the suction cup on the roof of my girls Associated TC4 and it looks like it will hold and not tip the car over.  Look for some car POV video soon!

What I read was that the gopro has a non replaceable lens and if it is scratched or broken then the camera is done for. So the box would be there for a crash into the rocks. Could probably pick up another case and drill a hole in it for the cable.

Absolutely.  The case has to be available separately.  With some care it could be modified to accommodate the wires and still keep the protection.

They have box's already cut and ready for av out, power options etc......  Your not going to get them with the 960 they have to be ordered separately.
that is a good price for what you get. I never fly and record with 1280 anyway.

If I recall, you used your GoPro for both FPV and recording video, but not both at the same time.  Is that correct?

You can use it for both at the same time if you are shooting video, stills however will have a delay when the picture snaps, butt you can still use it for fpv it will just freeze for a sec. when the camera snap photo.

Can you use it as live FPV for your on ground monitor AND record the video at the camera to the SD card?

Yes.  That is exactly what I do.  Now the Gopro will not do live video out in HD. So you wont have HD at the Monitor.

I used my GoPro both recording and video out. For the video out i drilled a hole into the case so I could plug a cable into the GoPro. I would use a 90 deg angle plug so if you crash there will be a less chance of the cable braking the jack on the camera. There are some cables here http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/home.php?cat=103
