Recently I saw this FAQ at the Futaba web site where it talks about .750 watts as a legal limit for Tx power. So I called to see what radio this was, the tech said it was for 72 Mhz and all 2.4 Ghz were 100 Mw as per FCC limit: http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/service-faq.html#q593
Since this post is really about range, I found this, very good reading: If a stock Futaba setup will get me 2 miles then I am in! http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?324-2.5-miles-(4KM)-range-with-stock-Futaba-FASST-2.4GHz!!
That was excellent. Thank you! I don't look for that kind of range, but I can sure tell you that I've never had any kind of issue with my Futaba FASST system. That's all I fly in anything that matters. Sure can't say that about Spektrum. I use a 10CAP like that guy does so I can still plug in a Spektrum module for my park flyers. It's the best of both worlds! It's really a bummer that the discontinued the 10CAP and the other module radios. There are still a few available on-line, but they are getting pretty scarce. ...Tiger
Do you know if the new 10 has the ability to add external antenna? Like a SMA connector or something? A patch at 100mw would be pretty good range I think.
The antenna is already mounted to the back of the 10CAP module. However, there is a coax going to it so you could easily remove the antenna and install a SMA connector. I'm sure you could do the same sort of thing on a 10CAG, but the connector would end up on the top. You can look at mine if you are going to the indoor fly tonight. ...Tiger
