Frsky is releasing the Taranis RC Tx. Bi-directional data, control up to RC, info from RC down to Tx. RSSI, rotor rpm, voltage, etc. Looks good. Voice tells you details about the data too. http://www.frsky-rc.com/NewProducts It's the RSSI that I am after.
I got the "pre-order" email also. I've been looking at this for a while now and am eager to see it in person. I've been reading the blog posts from several forums and it looks VERY promising. Native 8-channels with an additional bi-direction 8-channels for telemetry (that's 16 channels), plus the ability to add an external module for an additional 8-channels (that's 24!) The JR modules for the Spektrum receivers many of us use fits right into the module bay - even the OrangeRX module works (cheap). So with the right firmware installed, remember this is open source hardware, you can have 16-channels for flying and 8 bi-directional channels for telemetry. All for a measly $199.00!!! WOW, can't beat that price ... This might be a good thing .. After looking at link for this Tx I can't help think it's internals look remarkedly like Spektrum ... OEM maybe ??
With the L9R Rx it will do 8 channels PPM and no return telemetry, BUT! it has 0-3.3 volt ANALOG RSSI output on the Rx!!! AND, will go 3 times the distance of the other 2.4 Rx units. I like that.
Ooh yeah! I forgot about it's LRS capabilities The following link is for a combo with the X8R 16-channel receiver (8 for servos, and 8 for telemetry)... http://www.alofthobbies.com/frsky-taranis-x8r-combo.html There is a link on this page for one of the forums discussing many of the outstanding features and customizing for this transmitter. Oh yeah, the voice memos Tyson spoke of are also customizable - have it say anything for any alert programmed. Call your favorite 900 sex line and have the girl repeat your commands for this feature This is the combo I mentioned for $199. It is also available by itself, Tx only, for $179.
there is also a Frsky android app out now, Bluetooth from frsky to your phone. They are working on getting map tracking from the telemetry to google maps on your phone in real time. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.onomato.frskydash&hl=en
