So today I was having a conversation with someone and I mentioned something about discovering that the HoverFly Sport had heading hold capability. This person wasn't very familiar with the heading hold concept so I tried to explain. I don't think I did a very good job so tonight I decided to make a video to demonstrate what I was talking about. This is another one of those cases where I think a picture is worth at least a thousand words. :) I'm really glad I did this because now I have something to help me explain to my heli friends. I find that only about one in ten of them really understand this. I used the ELEV-8 for the demo. I hope you guys find it interesting.

Very cool Tiger, we had a discussion here about this last month where I had my epiphany as to why a Head Hold won't scale fly with aileron turns. I plan to try some rate settings this summer to see how I like it. I think I actually won't like it, but it will be neat to test. Why won't I like it?, dealing with wind vane while flying will just be another thing to have to do while trying to fly around instead of letting a robot handle the environmental factors. But my "real" heli pilot buddies will think it's cool.

Great video Tiger.  It is hard to explain heading hold and this video will be a useful reference.  Well done.

Yes, a good example of "one picture equals a thousand words" good job Tiger ...

When I first read up on GYRO's and not having flown one yet I had difficulty wrapping my head around the concept but after setting up and flying for myself I was surprised at how simple the actual operation of them really was. Also in retrospect the writers of those so called "tutorials" had a tendency to over-think or should I say overwrite their tutorials ... In the END all that was needed was to see the GYRO actually working in the real world!

FYI: I've posted the following in previous threads/posts but again for our Sercher' Lurkers here's a "tutorial" which try's in layman's language to describe how a typical GYRO (Rate & Heading Hold) does what it does. Which is the other side of the coin of what's being discussed here, not so bad reading for teh noob ... For example, many think our GYRO's are Solid-State Electronics but in reality they are a Micro-Electromechanical Devices, in other words a Mini Machine but not to be confused w/ a Mini-Me Machine ;) ---> Capi's GYRO 101 <---
