Naza M Quad Problem. Motors will not start. DJI 450 Naza M V1, Aurora 9 Radio, Servo Gimbal. Quad performed close to perfect last time I used it. Other things got in the way, and it was unused for a few months. It did get transported a couple times in the car, and didn’t get flown, before storage. Time to fly. Everything looked good, motors will not start. Spent most of one day attempting to find the problem. No luck. Any ideas? Tried different battery packs. Checked all of the wiring. Tested the radio and receiver. OK Ran the Assistant with version 1, Checked out OK. Updated to version 2. Checked out OK. Ran each motor, separate, both with the Assistant, and connected Directly to a different battery and receiver. Motors and controllers Worked as expected, as individuals. Programmed and installed another VE Sensor. All lights, parameters on the Assistant show proper set up and no indication Of problem. Gimbal works. Motors still won’t start. Did not replace the Naza M main unit. At the end of the day, I lost it. Reduced it back into kit form. Have another frame kit, and a 550 that is about 90 percent done. Will just put a new 450 together, and work the components from This one in, one at a time, to find the problem. The 550 has all new components. At this time, I suspect either a bad bottom plate on the frame, a cold solder Joint on the bottom frame, or a bad Naza M main unit. No crashes, transport damage, or magic smoke, since the last time it worked. What did I Miss???? Larry
It's almost always one of two things. If it was a new install and setup, I'd say make sure your throttle channel is not reversed. If nothing has changed since it last worked, then I'd say turn the throttle trip all the way down. If there is ANY throttle at all, it will not arm. ...Tiger
I agree with Tiger. I think you have bumped the throttle trim and that won't allow the system to arm.
I think that was one of the first things I checked. Throttle was normal ( not reversed ) Trim was set, zero out. I even tried to set the trim even lower, with no luck.. Wish I had kept notes, on the order of things I checked, as it is all a blur now. There is a good possibility I screwed that step up, while messing with something else. Will give it another try in a few days. During the time it was un-used, I did put the 550 together , and used the 450 as reference. No doubt, I screwed something up in the radio, switching back and forth between models in the radio. Looked OK, but I should have started the whole thing back from scratch. When I get back to it, and build the next one. Wiring will be different. Will use bullet connectors on the power wires to the motor controllers. Then if there is a motor or controller question, it will be simple, to just swap an arm assembly to find the problem. The Hex is a better idea anyway. More room between the plates. All of the stuff jammed into the 450 makes simple things like moving wires, and binding a real pain -- Too many projects going at the same time - Brain fade ! New radio in the pile to learn, Different video transmitter frequency - antennas New full house glider another flying wing. What I really need is a trip to the dump - Thanks, Larry
Wow, you do have a lot going on. When you get back to it let us know what you find out. Tell us about the new equipment. What radio did you get? What video transmitter?
I was afraid you would ask that. I'm a Guppy. Bought a bottom of the line 5.8 200 mWatt It was a joke. No range and anything blocked it. Maybe better antennas? Got them, but in the mean time, why not more power? Ordered a 500 or 600. Fun starts. It got lost somewhere between China and who knows. Fight starts, and the run a rounds. Mysteriously shows up one day about two months later. Receiver is dead on arrival. More fights and run a rounds. After a couple weeks they cave in and give me a credit. I had in the mean time ordered fill in stuff from other places. Bottom line, I now have about three sets, two sets of circular antennas and a coil antenna. I think it all works, but every time I look at it, my ulcer bleeds, and the blood pressure goes off the scale. It had become a stupid obsession over 25 bucks. I may recover and test it one of these days - So much for insanity, mixed with a lot of stupidity -- ( before this, I could use either 900 or 1280 ) If you go off the end and want to try it. Get the 32 channel stuff and you can mix brands. Of course they also mix the SMA and RP-SMA plugs. New radio is a Spectrum DX9. I had gone to Hitec Aurora and love them. Have a pile of Spectrum Receivers didn't want to give up. so needed Spectrum Radio. Both systems are nice. Lots of switches, sliders, and you can put a function on anything. The Hitec's have modules, so I can go back to 72 if I want to, or just plug 433 into the back. Both are easy to program. The old JR is a good radio, but it drove me crazy programing it.
Sorry to hear about your order problems. Who was the seller? Sounds like a China outfit. I have been wanting to go FPV for a long time but didn't want to go through all the fuss getting systems that will work together. I'd also like a clear signal and it looks to me like all of them have noise and drop outs, even if they are just short blips. This is what I think FPV should be: How do you like that Spektrum DX9? I need a radio with sliders and/or knobs.
From everything I have bought, only hobby wireless has never been a problem, I have multiple 5.8 Tx units and Rd units that were garbage out of the box and a 900 Tx Junk from range video. Get a T905 from HW, it will work.
This is what I think FPV should be: How do you like that Spektrum DX9? I need a radio with sliders and/or knobs.[/quote] John, About the radios. The only reason I bought the DX9, was the big pile of DSM 2 receivers I have. It is very easy to program, has a slider on each side and a knob on the top. The sliders work a bit rough. The sliders on both the DX9 and the Aurora 9 could use a better detent To find center. With the FPV gear, or what ever, Telemetry was not a consideration. With on board video transmission, you can record that, with or without using the FPV to fly. Hard choices and it changes so fast you can’t keep up. If you only have a few aircraft, the cost of receivers shouldn’t be a problem. With a bunch, it can add up fast. The telemetry is even worse. No doubt the radio brand you are using, has a newer version with All of the bells and whistles. Mixing brands, is both confusing and Expensive. Nothing beats hands on, if you can play with one, before you buy. Of course the guy selling the stuff in the store, tends to push his favorite Brand. Most of the favorite brands are rock solid, but if the pilot screws up, ( usually the batteries ) he blames the radio -- Larry Damn - that was good! I rambled on and never answered your question. I’m ready to go into politics ---- The last two videos you posted are about as close to perfect as it gets!
About the stuff from China. They come up with really great stuff. Then they send it to the cheapest factory they can find, and have a pile made. The factory cuts a couple corners, and no one ever checks one to see if it works. It's a carp shoot. Throw the money. Sometimes you win -sometimes you loose - Like the box of chocolates. Might taste good, ---- might leave a bad taste --- Just throw out the bad ones ------
Does the DX9 have telemetry? I had a really bad experience with Hobby King customer dis-service that still lives on in my mind. There are some things I'd like to get from them but I always look for alternate sources now. Did you watch that video of the DJI Lightbridge? That is one heck of a nice FPV camera view. Over 2 Km is more than enough distance for what I want to do.
Yes the DX9 does telemetry. Of course that is not supported with my DSM 2 receivers. No doubt it would need the newer receiver, plus all of the optional add on stuff. If you are using video and OSD, you probably wouldn't need it. I did get the telemetry packs for the Hitec. They work, but doubt if I will use them. My thinking, it is better to do the telemetry through the video. Then you aren't locked into one radio system. Of course if the video quits you are out of luck. The Lightbridge video was fantastic! Hard to believe they didn't clean it up. Rock Solid! Maybe it was just one of those perfect days -- I was impressed with the cell phone monitor, but I see they still have the problem with reflections on the screen. Major problem for me, without a black box over the monitor. Old eyes are probably a factor. Have a pair of polarized glasses coming. Hope they help.
Wrong Again! The DSM 2 receivers will work fine with telemetry and the DX9. The telemetry is done with the plug in stuff, and the newer radios. Same general idea as the Hitec. The newer receivers just have faster refresh rates -- All of this stuff works faster than my brain --- Larry
As far as telemetry is concerned I would most like to have battery used/available. I don't mind if the telemetry is via the radio for my use. We only have two types of radio systems Spektrum and Futaba. I wish the Futaba receivers were not so expensive. Another thing I like about the DJI Lightbridge is it runs the radio control and video through the same system. On the other hand it is most likely proprietary. Not too bad if you limit it to one airframe I guess.
I just realized I posted the wrong Lightbridge video. The guy seems to have two and I wanted to show the side-by-side version. Here it is:
That is the cleanest FPV I have ever seen, not to mention the highest resolution. Usable indeed! You're right on the price though. Ouch! Maybe hobby king will have one for half the price soon. That's usually how it goes.
