    Enough said.  8)

For what it's worth, it's nice to see somebody besides and Android "fanboy" take a stand against Apple. It seems as though a vast majority of the media takes the "Apple can do no wrong" stance and here is somebody going against the grain. A round of applause, please.

73% is quite a huge market, but I also think that if Android grows and gains much more popularity it might actually stagnate. Without competition there's not as much need to innovate and drive the platform forward.

Just look at Microsoft and Windows. Granted, Apple has reclaimed a larger percentage of desktop OS than it ever has before, but since Windows has such a huge margin it's to be expected that if you buy or build a new computer you're going to be using Windows. I'd hate to be in that same situation with Android. I'd hate for it to be that you get a new phone and it runs Android. You make a different choice and you're the "weird guy".

But, then again, I am the weird guy. I'm the Linux guy. Go figure.

I was surprised to read this since you're a Linux guy.  You compared Lunux to Microsoft and Apple, which is comparing Open Source to proprietary systems.  That is a Apple (no pun intended) to Orange comparison, they are completely different paradigms.
Stagnation is more of a symptom of closed proprietary systems because those companies tend to rest on their laurels once they gain a perceived amount of market share.  Open Source systems tend to never stagnate as long as the functionality remains useful.  Additionally, really useful Open Source systems tend to split and branch out creating more useful systems with further, or different, feature sets.  This can not happen with closed source proprietary systems.

There is an inherent benefit in Open Source that all the deep pockets and barrels of cash that companies like Microsoft and Apple can never meet and that is eyeballs on the code.  Proprietary source companies will only have the limited amount of eyeballs reviewing their code that they can afford, or choose to afford.  Open Source has orders of magnitude more eyeballs reviewing the code.  This is why you see bug fixes in a day when Microsoft and Apple take weeks, months and in some cases never.
