I find it interesting (and somewhat depressing) that Oregon has plenty of aircraft clubs but not one (that I can find) car/truck club.
The aviation clubs are chartered to the exclusion of ground based vehicles.

Yeah, I know about SORCRC and ROAR, but those organizations are centered on organizing and conducting competition events. Not that competition is bad, I like competition. But where does one go to get some first person help on a project besides the forums?

Don't get me wrong, I like this forum.
I can see the value of a local gathering where experience and ideas are exchanges with hands on the projects.

We've had a club in Medford, White City actually, for quite some time.  I can tell you that that club is a mess and has been for years.

The problem with clubs is that sooner or later they get political and people start grabbing for power and/or authority.

Yes.  When Smitty said "Club" I presumed he meant a "Organization" or formal club.  If he meant a loosely connected informal group, then I would say yeah, but that's what we are right here.  We often organize get together's through this very website.  People just post a how about joining me at xyz topic with the time and usually someone is up for it.

I personally would like to see a formal club organized in the Grants Pass area, but only if they have a nice venue with a track.

Yes, I did mean some type of organization.
Although, I see the point where sometimes the "org." becomes more important than the activity.
That said, any group activity requires some level or organization.
Take for example the swap meet. It just didn't happen.

We averted the political mess for almost three years doing it ourself and are even sanctioned into roar, but lack participation and the weather have hampered efforts as of late, we will be starting another season this middle summer and running again, but this time of the year is to wet and cold.  This is the time you tinker and prep for next year.

"We" would be the OPS  or Oregon Pro Series, good group and alot of fun, but we only run during the racing season.

We kind of do this already.  Maybe we are a loosely connected club.

GPS, Yes I believe you are correct. We are a loosely connected club.
Kind of an e-Club, and this forum is out meeting place.
To join, all you need do is register.
And the really cool part is that our club transcends the boundaries of Southern Oregon.
In fact it goes all the way to South East Canada. (say hey wOOd!).

Speaking of clubs, has anyone heard from Adam (Bartljuice) at Sleadd's about his progress on the indoor track? I'm with GPS on the idea of having a local club with a nice venue and a track (multiple tracks would be nice - dirt, carpet, crawling, etc.) Saturdays at Harbeck are fun, but a little more organization, and a more "purpose oriented" venue,  would definitely help bring more people out (IMO). Any thoughts?

We are in Oregon so the best would be to have a indoor venue.  It would have to be pretty big to house a dirt short course track and on-road course.

I spoke to Bartjuice at the last indoor fly-and-drive and he mentioned something about it.  It sounds like Nathan, the Sleadd's owner, needs more convincing.

I wonder how many $$$ it would take to use a county fair facility?

Actually Bartjuice has already spoken to me about this as a option.  Our fairgrounds has financial problems and had a fundraiser this summer to try and help out.  Maybe that would be an option.  If someone knows people at the fairgrounds we should initiate a dialog.

Good point.  Maybe you and I could make a visit to the shop and chat with him?
