I just flew out my second motor on the 450 today, was spooling up on the helipad getting light on the skids when the motor started to sound like a coffee grinder and seized up. took it apart and the internal bearing that you can never get at came apart and scattered little metal balls into the magnets. Had I been flying, my cat like reactions would have kicked in and I would have auto rotated to the ground ;D well, I would like to think so anyway.
I had a E-Flite Blade 450 motor do exactly that. Lots of tiny balls from the bearing stuck inside the motor bell to the magnets. Do you think you could just change the bearings, or was there damage done to the magnets or armature?
I worked on it last night, turned out I had another new 3x7x3mm bearing in my box of rc stuff. Blasted the motor with air, sprayed it with a cleaner and dried it all out, looked ok. It is all back together and flying again. Will try to stop by the Taco place today and maybe fly later.
I was thinking to go to the place behind the church on Harbeck. Let me know if you are interested and what a good time would be for you.
Curious gentlemen, assuming it's not a simple case of mistaken placement but why would 'Bearings' be in a subject best reserved for 'Electronics' ? ... Not that it really matter's much but wouldn't this add a layer of complication to any future searches!?!
I guess for the lack of knowing where would be better to put it. I figured that the motor is electric, and is used in everything electric. This incident could happen to a plane, multi, heli, etc. The real problem is that the title is overly simplified, because in order to check the bearing in question you have to press the shaft out of the motor and take it all apart. Since you are that far with it might as well just put a new $2 bearing in it.
wOOd - The balls in the bearings orbit just like electrons so this is definitely the best place for the posting. ;D ...Tiger
But now that you mention it, a mechanical topic would be a good idea, bearings, cnc machining, how to glue a broken wing back on, what to do with a bolt that stripped, etc.

You have my vote, +1 Could even add (as it's named now) in teh 'Electronics' category or section, only change that NAME into 'Electromechanical' or 'Electro-Mechanical' w/ subsections to separate the three disciplines. Each individual forum could or would read, 'Electronics' then 'Mechanical' then 'Robotics'... Meh jus thinking out loud ...
