How do you reduce the glare from rain and snow when driving at night? Easy, don't shine the light on the individual raindrops or snowflakes.

Intel’s new car headlamp makes rain and snow almost invisible

Why didn’t I think of that: Engineers at Intel and Carnegie Mellon University have created a car headlamp that sees through rain and snow by the simple expedient of not shining light where the raindrops are falling. It’s just a matter of tracking the individual drops and treating the headlamp as a high-definition projector that doesn’t shine pixels of light on the areas where the drops are, rather than a monolithic block of illumination. Turns out this can be done, at least in the lab, if you have lots of processing power (where Intel comes in) and it is claimed to eliminate 70-80% of the visible raindrops while reducing brightness by just 5-6%. Even in heavy rainfall, there are more areas in front of the car where the raindrops aren’t. It uses xenon or LED projection sources and might be a production feature on cars in a decade.
