    Looks 3D printed.

Looks like a child made it. I did better work than that when I was 13 - with just a Dremel! Could easily have flush-mounted the LCD by moving the joysticks a mere 3/8" further apart. Using a router base for the Dremel he could have made a recessed channel around the perimeter to flush mount the CF plate. And if indeed it is 3D printed - looks like it was - he should have spent another 20 minutes and thrown a pot of water on the stove with some dye to make the body pink so you'd know it was a child's play-thing!

Wow, I'm being a little over-critical. I'll go have some more coffee and come back when I'm not such a d_ck:confused:

    Great concept, poor execution.

    Well d_ck:confused:... :)
I'm betting his 3D printer couldn't make anything wider. Most of them have a very small work envelope.

Haha, well that is a distinct possibility ;) Still, could have done much better. In this age of "almost anything is possible", to see substandard work being posted, even hailed, as new and innovative is disappointing. But, as in all things, he has to start somewhere ;)

Still not sold on 3D printing, the stuff always looks like that when done.

3D printing should never to be considered as a production tool and it never will be. What it's great for is making a prototypes and exploring design ideas. It's only the ignorant media that thinks it's going to make everything you'll ever need. That's just stupid, but then it's what I expect from them. I think it's a really great tool for guys just like us. As for the quality of the end product, what you see in that pic is what comes out of a $500 printer. What comes out of a real one is quite nice looking and very functional. Maybe not quite as nice as an injected part, but surprisingly close with a quality printer. Give it a few more years and even the hobby printers will be making much better looking parts.

I've seen parts made from metals and ceramic that probably could not be made any other way than 3D printing. Those items certainly were production quality. There are a few companies making their products entirely with 3D printing. However I think other than the intricate metal and ceramic parts being made anything else where a large volume of parts is needed 3D printing is just too slow.
