2WD Short Course truck options

    Hey guys!  I'm looking to build a 2wd short course rig for racing.  I'm not looking to build another basher as I already have plenty of them  :).  I'm just curious to hear some opinions in regards to platform and electronics.  I will be using a Spektrum tx/rx setup.

    i personally run associated sc10, and i love them. 
    losi, and kyosho are probably just as good if not better.  2wd is a blast and a challenge to drive
    your gonna want to run a sensored system if you can, i don't yet.  it will be much smoother when throttle is applied, and the name of the game is consistency , and i wish i could be more consistent myself.  if you go associated get the factory team, or the rs, as the shocks are much more effective in those models than the base models.  keep in mind the hex's most use are 12mm and 0 offset, the new associated are as well.  i beleive kyosho , losi are running 0 offest too.  if you run 4wd, then you can switch tires/wheelse around to your liking.  right now i'm limted because i own the older model associated (non hex).  im an associated guy, but would be perfectly happy with a losi or a kyosho.  as far as power systems the castle 3800kv 1410 sensoreless brushless motor is what the fastest guy in redding was running, with a mmp sct esc in his losi xxxsct

    Well I'm a trx guy, and you drove my slash, I'd lean my opinion that way, takes more throttle/steering skill in 2wd, Lcg chassis a must though

    losi xxx sct all the way I had the pleasure to race one and it did beautifully.  You can even by it as a roller so you can build it how you want.  really the only upgrade you would want to do is the tuning kit.

    But the main problem is that if I get beat by you, then I have no excuse.  You must see my problem.  lol

    Do yourself a favor and go with one of the two big boys in the 2wd industry, either SC10 or XXXSCT.  Traxxas and HPI are more on the basher side and need hundreds in aftermarket parts just to make them somewhat competitive.  Also remember that brushless isn't necessarily needed and neither is a sensored system, a well tune sensorless system will perform just as well as a sensored system.

    I have a Velineon 3500 setup that I was planning on using for it.  I'm trying to keep the 2wd reasonable price wise so that I can have something for the class.  To be honest, my main focus is building my 1/8 electric buggy and 4x4sc project.  I just want to have something that I can run in the class and make a descent showing.  Between the SC10rs and XXXSCTe, what would you say the advantages/disadvantages be?

    I ran a SC10RS last season and it got me hooked. I was able to be competitive right out of the box. The stock motor and esc are decently strong and very durable. I put that system into my friends truck and it still runs today after an amazing amount of hours.

    I stuck with Team Associated, but the losi is basically the same. It is nice that the sc-10, and T-4 share most parts. It makes it easy to add another car and not add the extra needed parts.

    Also consider getting a Factory Team kit if you already have a motor and esc. The Ball diff, titanium turnbuckles, and FT shocks are worth it.

    There's alot more to it than just that, The addage is basically associated is better for a "groomed" track IE very smooth and fast.  The losi is more for a "loose" IE bumpy and rutted track.  If you go associated I would suggest NOT running the ball diff since the even the pro guys don't unless there running a blue groove track which we really don't have here.  It also boils down to your driving style, if your smooth and associated will work well, if your learning and like to jab at the wheel a losi will be much more forgiving. 

    As per the brushless setup, I personally like the velineon setup and won two series in a row in 2wd with my associated running a velineon system, I let many people drive it and they couldn't believe how smooth it was and most really couldn't believe it was a traxxas setup!d  Tuning is key my friends, even the best parts put together poorly and mismatched can make for a piece of junk.

    After looking at the two kits closely, I've decided on the SC10 Factory Team.  Thanks for the input guys!

    good deal, you will like it. I bought the factory team kit and passed the RS to my gf at the end of the summer.

    Also the factory team rollers have a nice high resale value on ebay and rctech. At the end of the race season you can basically take all your electrics out, sell the used roller for $170-180 and get a new one for $240. Upgrading to a new race truck for $70 every year is affordable.

    Also here is a link to the pro's setups so you don't get frustrated with the handling. The SC-10 can be very sensitive to suspension setting, I was able to get both our trucks handling the loose stuff really well. Get a pair of calibers for the rear and loose tracks will be a lot easier.
