Sweet. Already having batteries that work is a plus also.

I have a couple planes that weigh somewhat more than when they were built too. Poo happens but it's always a lesson learned.
    We hope.  ;)

So I got a new (to me) plane today...
Its a Carl Goldberg Models Super Chipmunk. VERY nice looking airframe. Originally a nitro powered setup, I'm going to get the airframe all fixed and spruced-up and convert it to electric. Now that the Reaper is almost finished, this will be my winter project ;D

That should be sweet when you get her prettied up. Judging form the thermostat on the wall, it must have close to a 6' wing?
Be a good time to setup a rear mount for floats.  ;)

PS;  Ya gotta keep that green haired pilot.  ;D

Where do you find the time to do other things like, I dunno, live? This one helicopter conversion is consuming my very existance. I couldnt imagine more than one project at a time.

Bill - the wingspan is 64" and the link you posted looks like the right one. Didn't know they still made this kit. From the look of what I brought home, I figured it was made in the 70's! FLOATS!! You're one step ahead of me ;) I'll definitely have to get some floats!

Tyson - In addition to my full-time job, I also have a part-time job that takes another 20-30 hous per week. BUT - this second job is what pays for my addiction, er - hobby! Finding time is tough sometimes, no doubt. But it all seems to work out :)

Sold my Super Cub and my Futaba T7C with all my Futaba Rx's at the swap meet. In the process of transferring Spektrum Rx's into my planes and getting my DX6i programmed.

GPBill - Our next Float Fly is scheduled for July 13-15, 2012. Would really like to see you there if you can make it down. I have reserved the entire camping loop that we fly from so let me know as soon as you can if you plan to attend and I'll save a site for you :D

Does that require an AMA? I would be interested in putting floats on the heli and doing some over water FPV. But don't have AMA and not sure if I want to go that route or not.

Yes, an Open (full) AMA membership is required for insurance purposes. I realize membership in a national (or even local) organization is not for everyone. But at $58 a year, you are fully covered for accidents, property damage, medical, fire, theft, vandalism, etc.. And not just at sanctioned events, but everywhere you fly. Our aircraft can cause a lot of damage and if we accidentally run/crash into someone, or loose control and our aircraft comes down in someone's back yard, even a small injury requiring medical attention is exepnsive. Plus you get a subscription to Model Aviation magazine ;)

Thanks for the heads up GC. I would not be able to commit to that date for a while but I'll sure mark it on my calendar and see what happens.
I am an AMA member but still have not flown any place where it was required.  ::)
It would be nice to join in.

OK - so I've got the money set aside for the new 60-size electric motor, ESC, and batteries for the Super Chipmonk if/when Hobbypartz.com gets their Monster motors back in stock! Been waiting awhile now...
Got rid of most of my RC cars so I can concentrate on my plane projects. In addition to rebuilding the Chipmonk, Slow-Stick, and one of my Pitts bipes, I am saving for another new bird - the Icon A5 from Hobbyking.com:

This amazing craft is a seaplane with a 71" wingspan! It has retracts so I can take off from land or water, and is big enough to handle all the FPV equipment I am going to throw at it! I first heard about the A5 from GPS, who is STILL looking for his first plane  Been looking at it ever since, and have decided to get one!

Same plane, but no retracts. Meaning either land OR water, but not both. With the retracts you can drive into the water from land, retract the gear, perform a water takeoff and landing, and then deploy the gear and drive back onto land! Very nice :)

I noticed that the two flight test guys are Josh and Josh but the one that is not a goof ball is Josh Bixler, did he have anything to do with the Bixler FPV plane from Hobby King?

Yes, he's been learning from Dave @ RCExplorer.se. Pretty funny watching some of the early videos, he gets dizzy and nearly falls down several times from disorientaion

That is so far is the best I've seen in ARF (foam) airplanes ...

Reasonable price too [IMG] also like it's "amphibious", w/ retracts - Land and Sea landings {LOL} even SNOW

Is the Hobby King ICON the exact same as the Horizon Hobby Icon?  The Horizon Hobby version seems to have metal landing gear.

The HobbyKing version is the only one with retracts. That is the feature I want most. The HorizonHobby (ParkZone) model undoubtedly has better electronics, but without retracts, I'm not at all interested. I can always change the electronics in the HobbyKing plane if needed :)
