Now this is a interesting development! How about a Open Source transmitter that is configurable for your application? Read more and see photos of this cool transmitter via the source link: Source: http://www.os-rc.com/
That is pretty cool. Its very similar to how the GT3B works except the users are the ones who provide the open source material. It's nice to see an actual manufacture support such features
This video has a lot of production but not much substance except at around 6 minutes in where they show this radio booting up. Watch the sticks. Here is the full video. The link below will take you to the boot up part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=ULVFLBz7TAvAc&v=VFLBz7TAvAc#t=361s
It seems this radio uses a mesh type networking system that they call a cloud. They claim that the more system in use the better the signal. Very interesting. Also the FPV screen option for the radio is actually a full Linux computer. Very cool stuff.
The guy behind the Open Source Transmitter, OSRC , is looking to get funding. Here is a video of him talking about the project and some of the history.
I agree. He has done such a terrific job with this transmitter that it would be a shame for him not to get funding. I emailed him to find out more about why he doesn't find a way to get on Kickstarter instead of making his own Kickstarter-ish funding system and he has some very good points regarding taxes and fees being he is in Cyprus that I had not considered. His transmitter is such a revolutionary design with unheard of features on competing products that if he ever gets it to market all the other major transmitter manufacturers will have to go back and re-think their own products.
Right on, this radio has allot of the features I would wish for in a Tx. All the features I wanted from BIG boys like Spektrum and Futaba and have said so in the past Anywayz didn't he say it was "Open Source" ... .... ... hehe, but I don't think THIS is what he means To HELP spread the word I made an image of his PDF Flyer (download) he would like people to share, but I ain't saying where I posted it [acronym=EYE See! That's great w00d. I really want this guy to succeed. The OS-RC radio is a real game changer and a miracle of integration, especially for folks into FPV because it eliminates the need to carry a lot of stuff because it's all in the radio already. His radio blows the doors off everything from Spektrum, JR and Futaba. If he gets his radio on the market those guys will all have to go back to their drawing boards and that's a big win for us, the hobbyists.
Yeah but how long before Spektrum and Futaba STEAL his idea!?! And I really like the SIZE of the screen he's using for this Tx but this only [my RANT] proves there is absolutely NO reason other than simple 'GREED' why the BIG Boys charge so much for their relatively small'n sad colour equipped TXs. Meh, might be certain these days given the prices of bare screens but I suppose they could (TRY to) argue "it's the cost of programming" them [/my RANT] ... The 'TRUTH' is they charge that much because THEY CAN, if people are willing to pay 'that price' then that's what they will charge, nuff said ... [acronym=EYE See! The OS-RC guy, Demetris Zavorotnitsienko, was on Flite Test this month: Flite Test : The OSRC Project ! More via the OS-RC website: http://www.os-rc.com/
I should have also mentioned that Demetris Zavorotnitsienko of OS-RC has a 3D printer project going on at Indiegogo. Check it out here: http://www.indiegogo.com/ilios-hd-3d-printer
