Anyone know of some other-than-normal seaplanes? I am looking for a new seaplane project. Some of what I have looked at are shown below. VERY open for other thoughts/ideas.

Martin YP6M Seamaster

Dornier Do-24ATT

Convair F2Y Sea Dart

Sanders Roe SR A/1

And of course - my favorite...

The Icon A5

Yes, I know Parkzone and Hobbyking both offer a version of the A5, but I'm looking for something bigger, and NOT foam... please add your input, thoughts, and ideas. Thanks  ;D

Yeah, the Martin is definitely cool! I've been trying to find scale drawings for several seaplanes, but, other than what is available commercially, the pickin's are slim :-\

Whatever you build I hope you use one or more of those sweet precision Graupner ducted fans so I can check them out!  ;)

Here's some food for thought Mike.
The Grumman Goose.

If you really want something unique, how about this.  ;)

I wasn't too impressed with the Grumman, but the Spuce Goose!!! WOW - very cool 8) Until I went to the website to see about ordering one and found out the short kit was $950!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't even include everything needed to build a complete airframe - no balsa sheeting and no spruce stringers/formers. Just the basic parts to build the basic shape (granted, there are over 1200 pieces - but really??). Althought this would have been the PERFECT project, I simply cannot justify the huge expense without also having to look for a new place to sleep ;) Thanks Bill, much appreciated :)

I thought the price of the big Goose might have been out of reach.
I should have warned ya before you got your hopes up.  ;)
Sure did fly nice in the video though. Sounded like a multirotor.

I've came across a little more information for you Mike, if you haven't came up with an idea yet.
The young fella featured in this video is quite a builder and has plans for most all his models. He has quite an interest in flying boats.
This RCGroups thread has more than a little information and links to build threads by folks who have built from his plans plus a link to his website.

No problem Mike.
These are all scratch builds, though some have had short kits cut for them, having most the tedious work done.

The news people needed a nice catch phrase. "Birch Plywood Goose" didn't roll off their tongues as well I guess.  ;)

Anyone see the movie about the early career (before his disability showed) of Howard Hughes, The Aviator  w/ Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett ... Cate Blanchett does the most convincing interpretation of Katharine Hepburn I have ever seen!

I have seen most everything there was about him, movies and documenteries, etc. amazing man.

He liked chocolate cake and when served this cake he had machinist calipers at the dinner table, the cake needed to be a perfect cube or it was sent back.

Have any of you guys gone up and seen it in person? It is truly amazing. Also still the most powerful machine I have ever been in the presence of personally at over 30,000 hp

I saw it when it was down in Long Beach next to the Queen Mary. Both were very impressive. Back then the tour included a walk through the flight deck and I even got to sit in the pilot's seat. Not sure if they still do that or not. There's a R/C Fly-In in McMinville every year at the airfield behind the museum. I'll be going up this year (I think its in the fall sometime). Going to make a week of it if I can get the time off from work :)

It's a grand place to visit. Besides the air museum they have the 3D theater and now a water park. They even have a very nice RC airfield in the back, just need your AMA card.  ;)
I don't remember being able to sit in the pilots seat but you can still take a short tour through the goose. When I was was up there last, there was an SR-71 Blackbird parked under one wing with plenty of room to spare.
Across the street is the city airport and on the backside of it a runway used to tow gliders up. I can tell you first hand, that's a blast also.
