That's an interesting solution for sure. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Tiger,
... FYI: The site itself caters to DIY video projects and it seems every other post has one CAM stabilizing system or another.
... Anyhow, I post em as I find em ...

EDIT: From the same site, again "Don't know how useful this will be" anyhow ...

Thanks wOOd.
I have some of that stuff around here, I'll see if I can make a mount for the little Sony camera I have and put it under the quad.

I have a number of the plastic boxes receivers come in, and the lids should work quite well. Just drill holes around the edge as they have shown. The wire I had was only two short lengths little more than 7 or 8 inches long. No idea why I kept that. Anyway it's easy to come by so I'll get some and give it a try.

Here's what I was talking about.
Now if my landing gear would ever get here so I can try it.
I'll use hook and loop between the bottom of the quad and the top box.

... Well not exactly looking good but looks like it will work [IMG]

What are your plans for testing, which heli?

Hopefully it will fit the bottom of the quad after I fit it with heli type landing gear I have ordered.

Hi Bill

I'm only curious and by that I'm not saying anything by it but are you going to test your new quad without the stabilization?
... Only to see if you have a 'jello' issue, then if found then trying the new stabilization ... again only curious :p

The camera is easily removeable, and yep, I plan to try it both ways.

hehe now I'm curious about the wire, the end-clips specifically, do you have a tool for installing those?

Thanks Bill, the 'collars' looked to me like 'end-clips' in the photo. But 'collars' I have in my own inventory so now I only need to source the 'wire' or find a suitable substitute in my inventory. FYI: This is the camera I plan to use when I finally decide to build a camera platform so it's weight might be an issue being heaver than a typical GoPro.

Unless that camera weighs well under 500 grams you probably won't be flying it on a (450 size) quadcopter.

Not to be rude, but I hadn't planned it for my 450,
... my 500 would be more suitable but I hadn't planned for that either.

I was actually thinking "a large %^$&%$&%#$#"
... but then again as it's a future project that isn't certain either, [IMG] LOL

On the other hand camera 'stabilization' might be a moot point anyway.
... As you know 'video' is not my thing as the plan is for aerial stills

Prior to the flood of Quads on the market RC Helicopters where what was available at the time. But I recognize QUADs are a more suitable camera platform ... In short I won't be building an RC Helicopter Camera Platform, yes, probably a QUAD ;)

You probably want stabilization especially for stills. Shaky hands have nothing on a quadcopter. :D

A much better stabilization system for hand, shaky hands is actually built into
Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 as it is with all digital cameras made these days. Typically these systems allow between 3 and 4 f-stops better performance. High end DSLRs have taken this to 5 f-stops. More or less 'shaky hands' is what those systems are designed to fight.

Nevertheless, yes, some form of isolation between the vibrating source and the camera would be required to reduce the vibrations getting to the camera, even for "stills" o_O That's just good engineering ...
