OFNA Ultra GTP-2e Build

Booya! The UPS and FedEx guys arrived with some goodies.

I'm going to use the Mamba Monster 2200 kv system and the Futaba brushless servo I ordered for my SC8e on this on-road car. Soon we'll have the rainy season here and the asphalt dries faster than the dirt so I'm hoping that I will get more usage from this car than my off-road truck, and it will give me something to build during the winter.

The kit comes with a nice body but I also ordered the Mercedes CLK-GTR body and I am planning to add lights to that one and trick it out a bit.

Thank You JROCK2.0. I was wanting a large on-road car for a while and this one fit my budget and I don't have to convert a gas car to electric. Like I mentioned I kind of robbed another project, my SC8e, as the motor combo and servo were purchased for it, but I'll have time during the winter to get that one ready in time for next years season.

In the kit the wheels were white and that wasn't working for me so I went to Rite-Aid and got a bottle of "Rit" dye "Scarlet Red" and now look at them! Yeah baby!

I have the servo and Mamba Monster ESC installed in the second photo, but I still have to solder on a battery connector. I have all my stuff setup with Traxxas power connectors, except my helicopters, and that's what I'll be doing on this car also.

ya! - I could get into that!=very cool GPS 8)...I wonder about the 1/8 scale buggys w/ heavier (anti) sway bars and springs/shock oil,being used as dual sports...(?)........back in the day,that was the only option w/ gas.Just the price of a second set of tires and wheels would have scared some one off though.Now people think nothing of dropping that kind of coin on Monster truck equiptment=looks like the market is ready for this .Get her all dialed, so someday I can copy your set up  .

GPS, you've got a great platform for a street racer there.
And... as I recall the sale price was a winner too.

I got a little further last night. I still need to solder the battery connectors on the ESC and change the ones that came on the Gen Ace batteries. I ran out of glue on my last tire. The right side rear is only partially glued but I couldn't resist putting them on to see how she looks.
The Castle Creations 2200 kv motor is mounted and 14 tooth pinion installed and gears meshed. The 14 tooth came with the kit so that's what I'm going with for now. The Gen Ace batteries are 4S LiPo but the ESC can handle up to 6S. That would be interesting!

BTW: There is no center differential on this car, it's a solid blocker so the front and rear differentials will do all the work. I did not know this when I purchased the kit, but I am assuming that since all the wheels will be in contact with the ground most of the time compared to a off-road truck that is jumping a lot that it is probably OK. If anyone knows more about what other people do with this car and the center differential, please post and let me know.

The body is cut out now but not yet fitted with any final trimming and no body posts installed yet so you're seeing the body sitting on the shock towers for now.

: you got me thinking , GPS-I'm still not sure a nitro tc3 or a Traxxas 4 tech 3.3 , wouldn't keep up w/ that BEAST (and I do mean, respectfully, "beast") . I would like to have one for sure= ( 8th scale mad house 100 mph parking lot BEAST!) .I think you can get away w/ more ground clearance for parking lot rocks,ect. & more wheelbase to roll on the horse power,staying more stable.Can a 4 tech 3.3 keep up in a parking lot (?)

Good question.  I don't even know how fast my car will be initially.  I know I will need some practice to get to know it before I do any racing.  When it's done I will try to make some video to post up here.

The only person I know who has a 4-Tec is Means2k.  Maybe after I've run a few batteries through it we can race sometime.

GPS, might I suggest number plate  background to be added to the bottom of your chassis , before you run your car (?)-It will save the bottom of your car from getting all scuffed up.-One sheet , from your local motorcycle shop is cheap, and will go a long way.It comes in what ever color you want also...just a thought

Thanks for the tip.  How thick is number plate?  Have you done it to any of your cars?  I've heard of people using screen protector material but not number plate.

I got some more tire glue, BSI IC-2000 and finished gluing the tires today.  I also got some more female Traxxas battery connectors so I can finish the electronics tomorrow.

number plate background , is a tape that comes in different mil. thicknesses, you stick it to a number plate, then stick your numers onto it-go to EBAY.and type in motorcycle graphics,to get some ideas. Detail shops do clear masks on motorhomes and cars w/ a similar product,to protect them from rock chips.Number plate back ground is pretty easy to get, but it mat not hurt to call a auto detail shop to see if they can sell you a 1'x1'piece of clear -they may have some .I use it ,I put some on my Slash-I'm surprised it doesn't get used more often-it also makes the bottom of the chassis slick=less friction.I don't cover everthing , just the high spots-not that that wouldn't be a good idea...

I have some clear vinyl contact shelf liner that I'm going to try.

let me know how it works...I just happen to have # plate background  sitting around .I redo it when it gets rough,but it holds up very well.It actually saves the plastic on dirtbikes when you fall=very tough stuff-I have tested this on numerous occasions  ...well-every time I ride actually  .

I got the body posts and body alignment done last night and got to the painting today. This is my first time doing a "Carbon Fiber" look. I did the hood and front ground effects splitter in carbon fiber.

I tried to do a little gradient near the bottom edges and wheel wells to simulate race grunge and oil spray. Then I shot a coat of "Candy Red" and a light silver before using "Racing Red" and finally white as a sealer.

The rear wing posts are black but I have not painted the rear wing yet. I might do carbon fiber on it or just black, I have not decided yet.

That is outstanding!
You've set the bar very high and I'm not sure my current paint project can ever hope to compare.

Thank You Smitty.  There are some mistakes in the front edge of the carbon fiber hood and one at the rear near the windshield but I am happy with the results.

I decided to do carbon fiber paint on the rear wing.  As soon as it's dry and mounted I will take some more photos and post them.

I'm glad you decided on the carbon fiber wing.


But darn it!
I'm now re-thinking my entire paint scheme.
