HP is getting into it now with something they call "Multi Jet Technology". 3D printed chain lifts car -- HP Multi Jet Fusion™ Technology Check it out (HP): http://www8.hp.com/us/en/commercial-printers/floater/3Dprinting.html
Wow, that is REALLY impressive! when Scott said "this is not for home use" I immediately disagreed! I don't care how big it is. Cost on the other hand...
It's big, but not that big. It's on a table top so it looks super tall in the video. I couldn't find a good picture, but I'm guessing it's really maybe 4' tall. It is wide for sure, but not super crazy. The printer I have now is like 7' tall so this doesn't look so bad. The resolution is certainly impressive. I'm thinking their idea of inexpensive is going to be a lot different than mine though. If they'd give me one, I'm sure I could find a place for it. ...Tiger
Just found a stand alone picture. More info here: http://www.computerworld.com/article/2840555/hp-embraces-blended-reality-dives-into-3d-printing.html ...Tiger
In a year they'll have a new model that will cost half as much and be twice as good. These things are getting cheaper every day. I really do think that these will be almost as common in the home as ink printers one day.
