    Hello all,

After a 30 year hiatus from the R/C world, I am slowly getting back into the hobby.

The 'bug' bit me again a few months ago when I discovered my daughters unopened "Stealth Flyer II" infra-red helicopter that she left in her room when she moved out. She had had if for years, and never even opened the box.

I decided to 'confiscate' it, and open it. Even though it was just a 'toy' I had a great time crashing it, and even flying it around the house before I finally broke it beyond repair. It sadly went into the trash, but the damage had been done! I had to get myself a 'real' R/C helicopter. I had no idea what to get, so I wound up with a little Blade Scout CX. What a blast that thing is. I now have it, a Blade MCX2, and a Blade 200 SR X. They are so much fun, I am sure I will have more very soon.

I'm happy to have found this local Board to learn more about the 'modern' R/C hobby!

Welcome to our forums! Glad to hear you've got the bug again :) Hope you'll find a good home here as we have a good, friendly, and very knowledgeable group of people here. A group of flyers gets together every Sunday at the Redwood School in Grants Pass for some weekly fun, yes, even in the winter! Some get there early, but the best time to show up would probably be between 10:30-11:00. The fly until around noon then go out for lunch at a local Mexican restaurant for good food and stories. Hope to see you out there! Mike.

Thank you for the welcome. Is the weekly get together outdoors, or in the gym? Indoor flying in a gym would be great!

Welcome to the forums! Great choice, the mCX is a great model and tons of fun to fly.
A few years ago a couple guys organized a really great winter time indoor fly-and-drive spot at the Lincoln Middle school. Nowadays the place to meet for RC air models is at the Redwood School Golden Child mentioned already. It is outdoors only. If you click the "Events" menu at the top of the page and view the calendar you can click on a event which gives more details including a map.
There are at least two regular local meets in Grants Pass, one for air and one for surface guys.

Thanks for the welcome GPS. It's too bad that the event is not indoors. I'm not a cold, wet weather person.

I'm not a cold, wet weather person either. In fact the group of hard core folks out there is probably about 10 or so folks. However when the weather is nice the group easily doubles. Another cool aspect of the RC flyers at Redwood is that you will find every kind of model you can imagine out there and the guys are all friendly and open to talk with. Plus you can join them for lunch at Tacos Locos on Allen Creek near Albertson's and chat about all things RC over a nice meal.

Indoor flying just started again at the "Y" in Grants Pass a couple weeks ago. I don't know the schedule, but I'll ask Chris. It's sponsored by the local AMA club so you do have to be an AMA member to fly. I'm not a big AMA fan, but if you join, you do get a nice magazine. :) You might check the Rogue Valley Flyers website or call he "Y" if you want to know the schedule asap.

Thanks for the replies everyone. 30 years ago when I first started in the R/C airplane hobby I remember how I had to have the AMA membership to be a member of the Rogue Valley Flyers club. Man, that was a long time ago. I'm not sure I want to do the AMA thing again.

Speaking of 30 years ago... I have a bunch of things left over from then that I will never use again. Planes, engines, parts, a Futaba 4 channel radio, etc. Does one have to have a certain number of posts, or a be a member here a certain period of time before one can put stuff in the "For Sale" section? I know other Boards require something like that.

I think the helicopter bug has bitten me bad. I wound up buying TWO more on Saturday, along with a Spektrum DX6i radio. More money, more money!

Post away! No limits or regulations. Just be clear and accurate with lots of pics if possible so potential buyers know what they're looking at. Also, the RVF have an annual Swap & Shop coming up March 21st. Check out their page if you're interested.

It would be hard to get pictures really, as all of my stuff is stored away at my Moms house. I don't even know it any of the stuff is worth anything anymore. Perhaps it is all obsolete? I can make a list from memory, but it wont be complete I am sure.

What helicopters did you get? Have you looked at quadcopters?

I had a little quadcopter a while back. I did not like it at all. It scared my dogs, and I accidentally bonked one of them with it. I got rid of it. Helicopters are much better, I think.

I got a like new Blade 120 SR for 20 bucks, and I also got a like new Blade 130x for 80 bucks.

Looks like you got a couple good deals! I like the new DX6i. In my opinion it's the nicest radio to hold in your hands on the market.

I can agree with that about the DX6i. So far I have bound it to my MCX2, and that little helicopter flies completely different, and SO much better than it did with the stock Tx. With the custom settings available with the DX6i, it makes the helicopter(s) so much more fun. I'm glad I spent the money on the new Tx.

Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do with the stock Tx's that I will never use again.

We bound our DX6i with a mCX and I agree with you - it is a whole lot better than those stock transmitters. What a improvement those nice DX6i joystick gimbals make not to mention the accuracy! Changes the personality of the little mCX completely.
